The National Museum, located right next to Zurich's main train station, looks like a fairytale castle. However, when you walk through the mostly public archway into the inner courtyard, you discover also a modern new building that balances the original historicist structure. The golden age of carriage building started in Switzerland around 1849. The carriage ran daily on the Gotthard route from Flüelen on Lake Lucerne to Camerlata at the southern end of Lake Como. The trip used to take 23 hours. The only remaining Gotthard carriage, built shortly after 1850, still been in working, is located in the entry hall of the Swiss National Museum in Zurich.
Have a nice day!
