“My first earnings/pocket money story”—everyone remembers the first time they earned money or received pocket money 💸 It might be a small amount, but it was big on emotions and lessons.
This topic has brought back fond memories from my teenage years. When I was about 17, my sister worked as a manager at an optician's shop. I remember one day I went to take her lunch, and there was a sign at the entrance saying they were looking for sales promoters whose job was to attract customers to the shop.
I was thrilled when I saw they were hiring and told my sister that if they could hire me, I was willing to work. I needed money and wanted to start in the workforce. I had already graduated from high school and had nothing to do. My sister thought it through carefully because I wasn't of legal age. But there was no problem because my legal guardian gave me written permission. My mom agreed because she knew I would be with my sister and she would protect me.
Once my mother's permission was ready, my sister was able to hire me without any problems. The job wasn't very difficult, but I needed to be attentive to get clients for the optician's shop, so I had to be very kind and persuasive. Little by little, I learned how to deal with people, and although it was difficult at first, I adapted very well. At work, I had other colleagues who helped me a lot. My sister was in charge, but that didn't mean she received preferential treatment. I liked the salary I received; for me, that income was a blessing. I was able to buy clothes and help my mom with food. I was also able to save some money to pay for the paperwork and certificates I needed to enroll in university.
I had the option of studying from Friday to Sunday and working from Monday to Thursday. I worked at the optician's for almost two years. It was a great experience, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with the public. This first job prepared me for my future work. It taught me the importance of earning money through hard work and dedication, and how to gain the experience needed to face new professional challenges.
It's been a pleasure sharing my experience of my first job.

Este ha sido un tema que me ha traído un grato recuerdo de mi adolescencia, aproximadamente cuando tenía 17 años mi hermana trabajaba en una óptica como encargada y recuerdo un día que fui a llevarle el almuerzo a y había un aviso en la entrada que decía que solicitaban promotores de venta cuya función era atraer a clientes a la óptica.
Me entusiasmé cuando ví que solicitaban trabajadores y le dije a mi hermana que si podían contratarme porque yo estaba dispuesta a trabajar, necesitaba dinero y quería comenzar en el mundo laboral. Ya me había graduado en la escuela secundaria y no tenía nada que hacer. Mi hermana lo pensó minuciosamente porque yo no era mayor de edad. Pero no había problema porque mi representante legal me dió un permiso escrito donde me daba su permiso. Mi mamá aceptó porque sabía que estaría con mi hermana y me protegería.
Una vez listo el permiso de mi madre mi hermana pudo contratarme sin ningún problema, el trabajo no era muy difícil pero se necesitaba estar atentos para conseguir clientes para la óptica, así que tenía que ser muy amable y persuasiva. Poco a poco fui aprendiendo a tratar con las personas y aunque fue difícil al principio me fui adaptando muy bien. En el trabajo tenía otros compañeros que me ayudaron mucho, mi hermana era la encargada pero no por eso tenía preferencias. Me gustaba el salario que recibía, para mí ese ingreso era una bendición. Pude comprarme ropa y ayudar a mi mamá con la comida. Además pude ahorrar algo de dinero para pagar los papeles y certificados que me pedían para ingresar a la universidad.
Tuve la opción de estudiar de viernes a domingo y trabajar de lunes a jueves. Estuve casi dos años trabajando en la óptica, fue una experiencia muy buena y agradezco haber tenido la oportunidad de trabajar con público, este primer trabajo me preparo para mis futuros trabajos. Me enseñó la importancia de ganarse el dinero con valor y esfuerzo y a conseguir la experiencia necesaria para afrontar nuevos retos laborales.
