A taste of what is to come...

...as it was the wife's birthday, and we took a two-day break. 030.jpg

Much needed for both of us, as we have not had a break for a long time now. Of course, we travelled into the countryside, and our destination was booked at a small town. We booked for Saturday and Sunday, and we travelled back on Monday. I have taken an average of 230 photos per day, and gathered some stunning views, but I am not going to post the photos in a series as I will rather post them when I feel like it.

All the photos in this post were taken on our trip to the town, and it is so nice when a person just decides to take to the road, and I can tell you that we were prepared for a mountain of surprises, as usual, on our trip. Things worked out pretty well, and instead of a two-hour drive, it took us about four hours as I stopped often to take shots when we saw something interesting.

I bet you would also love to travel on roads like this, and we had a clear and very good road all of the way. One cannot be too sure what the conditions of the road are, unless one has travelled them, but we have never before been on this road.

Water tankers for the sheep, and they look like Merinos. You can see the lands have all been harvested. 038.JPG

I think they have planted Canola seeds and are busy irrigating the land. 040.JPG

Something very special to be seen in the picture below, and I wonder if you can see it. Look at the poles in the water at the right hand of the picture. 054.JPG

I cannot tell you how happy I was to see that speck on the fourth pole. 051.JPG

Can you figure out what this is now? 045.JPG

Distance about 500 meters, and it's one of my favorite birds, namely the great African Fish Eagle. 048.JPG

At the far-right end of the dam there were a lot of birds in the shallows. 064.JPG

Couldn't get the pictures too clear due to the distance and the light, but the birds are Egyptian Geese, and there were a lot of them. The little birds in the backline are Blacksmith Lapwings. The shot looks like a painting. 060.JPG

I don't want to do a photo dump here, as my normal posts have mostly 10 pictures, and it's quite enough for a person to see what it's all about. As I said above, we stopped often on the road to gather some lovely views. We were not in a hurry, and although it was early morning our booking availability was only at 2pm in the afternoon. That's why we took such a slow, luxurious trip. We had to cross two mountain passes, and I don't know what it is with some drivers as we even saw them overtaking on a solid double white line, in the middle of the road, which means no overtaking. I even doubt that some of the drivers know the road rules. We have many head-on collisions in this country, and many people die. But people just seem not to care. It is very dangerous to overtake on a blind rise, but I digress and I hope that you have also enjoyed the views. Such is life.

Happy birthday to your sweet lady Marian! It's not often one sees a fish eagle; I used to hear it at times in my old house, what a lovely sound!

Marian sends hugs and kisses your way milady. I was waiting to hear the fish eagle's call, even though he was far away, as you know that their calls can be heard from many miles away, but no call. Such is life :)

All blessings to you in that paradise.
