Hello dear photography enthusiasts! This weekend, I had the pleasure of sharing a very exciting trip with some friends. Without a doubt, it was the biggest challenge I've undertaken so far in terms of exploring unfamiliar places. Yesterday, Sunday, about two hours from my city, I went to a small town. A road leads to some majestic mountains where there is only nature and tranquility. Here, I want to briefly share our adventure and how the entire trip went.
Hola queridos amigos amantes de la fotografía, este fin de semana pude compartir con algunos amigos un paseo muy emocionante, sin temor a equivocarme ha sido el desafío que más grande que hasta ahora he realizado en cuanto a excursiones a lugares desconocidos. El día de ayer, domingo, a dos horas dos horas de mi ciudad se encuentra un pequeño pueblo, un camino te lleva hacia unas grandes montañas donde solo hay naturaleza y paz. Aquí les quiero comentar brevemente nuestra aventura y como estuvo todo el camino.
We left at dawn, around 5 am. Although it was a two-hour trip, we were delayed a bit waiting for the rest of the group to arrive. In total, there were almost 20 of us. We were accompanied by two little girls who were incredibly energetic; they had endless energy and never got tired. We arrived back at the starting point in the village around 9 am.
Salimos al amanecer, a eso de las 5 am, aunque era un viaje de dos horas, tardamos un poco esperando que llegaran el resto de los integrantes, en total fuimos casi 20 personas, nos acompañaron dos pequeñas niñas que son todo terreno, tenían energía infinita y no se cansaban. Llegamos al punto de partida en el pueblo como a las 9 am.
The outward journey is almost 12 kilometers from the village to the water wells. We had to cross through the village and then along a flat path without many obstacles, but upon reaching the base of the mountain, we had to climb a huge one. That's where the path became more difficult. We had a local guide who knew the way, as it's easy to get lost in the mountains. At first, we all went together, but as time passed, many fell behind. I tried to keep up with one of the guides.
El Recorrido de ida es de casi 12 kilómetros desde el pueblo hasta el lugar donde se encuentran los pozos de agua, debíamos atravesar el pueblo y luego un camino llano sin muchos obstáculos, pero luego al llegar a las bases de la montaña debíamos subir una enorme, es ahí donde el camino se puso peor, contamos con la guía de un lugareño el cual conoce el camino ya es que es fácil perderse en las montañas. Al principio todos íbamos en grupo pero a medida que pasaba el tiempo muchos se iban quedando, yo traté de seguir el paso de uno de los guías.
There were only four of us in the lead group, plus the guide who was showing us the way. We came across two enormous trees that marked the entrance to one of the most difficult sections of the trail: crossing a dry riverbed. As you can see, when it rains in the mountains, this riverbed can carry large rocks. This section was about 1.5 km long; it was tough hopping between the rocks without twisting my ankle.
En la delantera solo ibámos 4 personas más el guía que iba indicando el camino, encontramos dos enormes árboles que indicaban la entrada a uno de los caminos más díficiles, atravesar un río seco. Como pueden observar, por este río cuando llueve en las montañas puede arrastrar piedras de gran tamaño. Este camino duró aproximadamente como 1,5 km, fue duro ir saltando entre las piedras y no doblarse el tobillo.
We saw the enormous mountain we had to climb. To reach the pools, we had to circle the mountain halfway up and then descend along a rocky path lined with cacti. At the beginning, we came across this stream, which flows down from the pools high on the mountain. The path was difficult; there were sections where the climb was very steep, and we had to hold onto rocks and branches. I was already feeling quite tired, but the advantage of getting ahead of everyone was that I could then take long breaks while waiting for the group.
Vimos la enorme montaña que debíamos subir, para llegar a los pozos hay que rodear la montaña hasta la mitad, y de ahí descender por un camino empedrado y muchos cáctus. Al inicio nos encontramos este riachuelo, el cual desciende de los pozos en las alturas de la montaña. El camino fue dificil, hubo zonas donde la subida era muy pronunciada y había que subir sujetando las piedras y las ramas. El cansancio en mi ya era notorio, la ventaja de adelantar a todos es que luego tomaba largos descansos hasta esperar al grupo.
Reaching the summit was a liberating feeling. We took a few minutes to observe the landscape, the path we had just traveled. It was a magical moment to hear the sound of the breeze and the water flowing through the pools below the mountain.
Conquistar la cima fue un sentimiento liberador, nos tomamos unos cuantos minutos para observar el paisaje, el camino que veníamos recorriendo. Fue un instante mágico el poder escuchar el sonido de la brisa, y debajo de la montaña el agua que fluia por los pozos.

We arrived at the pools, a truly wonderful place. The pools are formed by the water flowing downstream, and although there isn't much of it, the pools are very deep, with crystal-clear, very cold water. We all took advantage of the opportunity to have a dip and swim. The fun was the reward after that long trek. This place is a virgin forest, very little known, so you can truly experience nature in all its splendor. We spent half an hour in each pool and then continued onward, making our way over the enormous rocks until we found another pool to swim in.
Llegamos a los pozos, un lugar realmente maravilloso, los pozos se forman con el recorrido río abajo del agua, aunque es poca, los pozos son muy profundos, el agua cristalina y muy fría. Todos aprovechamos de darnos un chapuzón y nadar. La diversión fue la recompensa despues de ese largo recorrido. Este lugar es un bosque virgen, es muy poco conocido por lo que se puede sentir la naturaleza en esplendor. En cada pozo durabamos media hora y seguíamos avanzando por las enormes rocas, hasta encontrar un nuevo pozo donde nadar.
The return journey was tough because we didn't take the same path we came up. Instead, we descended the mountain along the riverbank. You can see the enormous rocks, so I prepared myself thoroughly. After bathing in the pool, I felt completely refreshed. I made my way down carefully, but I picked up the pace so night wouldn't catch us on the mountain, as there's no electricity except for miles around. This was the most challenging part.
Regresar fue duro ya que no tomamos el camino por donde llegamos, sino que fuimos bajando la montaña por el río, pueden observar las enormes piedras, así que me preparé muy bien luego de bañarme en el pozo quedé como nuevo. Así fui descendiendo con mucho cuidado, pero pude apurar el paso para que la noche no nos tomara en la montaña ya que no existe la luz eléctrica más que a kilómetros de distancia. Esta fue la parte más desafiante.
I'm so grateful to have experienced this adventure, a nearly 20 km round trip, where the return journey was more challenging. The group was fantastic, everyone in great shape and friendly. This is the second time I've traveled with them, and I hope to continue sharing adventures with the group. It's been an honor to show them this beautiful place in western Venezuela. Estoy muy agradecido de haber vivido esta aventura, de casi 20 km de ida y vuelta, donde el retorno fue más fuerte, el grupo fue de lo mejor, todos en buenas condiciones y amigables, es la segunda vez que viajo con ellos y espero seguir compartiendo aventuras con el grupo. Ha sido un honor el poder darles a conocer este hermoso lugar del occidente de mi país Venezuela. Me despido y será hasta una nueva aventura.
