    Highlands On A Monday

We're currently amidst a heat wave here in Louisville, for the first time in weeks the temperature got above freezing. Had the postal service out running around in shorts. While it still wasn't quite shorts weather in my book, it was street photography weather.

Have just about had it with looking at the same piles of snow and ice, had to make my way over to the Highlands neighborhood today to look at their piles of snow and ice. Still just as cold and dirty, but now with added shopping carts!

Didn't take long before another street portrait walked up and indicated he wanted his photo taken. Need to work on getting more close up shots for these but they usually happen so fast and without warning that my brain doesn't catch up until after it's over.

It hasn't snowed enough to matter in a week but with the cold it's just sort of hung around, looking more and more grim and grimy by the day. According to the winter weather advisory, we're supposed to get an inch of wet, slushy snow tomorrow, with a glaze of ice for dessert, so that should spruce things up for a day or two.

The neighborhood hardware store didn't seem to be making out too badly from all the winter weather. We don't even own a snow shovel, by the time they started threatening us with that last storm it seemed likely there were none left to be found in town.

School was finally back in session today but rush hour still wasn't very rushy. This town pretty much shuts down anytime we get more than a couple inches of snow but it usually doesn't stick around long. We don't quite know what to do with ourselves when it hangs around and just lingers.

When spontaneous protests start popping up on street corners, you know this city has just about had it. Only other time I've seen it like this was in late May 2020, when it seemed like the cops had declared war on the city and the city wasn't backing down.

No visit to the Highlands is complete without at least stopping to peer into the Book & Music Exchange. It's probably my favorite shop in this whole damn town, you never know what you're going to discover there, may come out with a hard to find classic video game, or an advanced training manual for military and police snipers to accentuate your coffee table.
