⛪ Estoy construyendo una catedral
Una cosa que me pasa con cierta frecuencia es que algunas personas suelen preguntarme “¿a qué té dedicas?” y frente a tal interrogante he dado muchas respuestas diferentes durante algún tiempo. Pero, recientemente tras mirar una de estas conferencias del proyecto “Aprendamos juntos” de BBVA junto a Zully, oímos una analogía que nos pareció increíblemente acertada cuando se trata de pensar en el papel que cada uno de nosotros jugamos en la blockchain de Hive.
Durante años he trabajado en hacer de mi quehacer en Hive un estilo de vida, lo que me ha conducido por varios caminos , uno, creador de contenido; dos, fundador y curador de comunidades; tres, divulgador de Hive; cuatro, conferencista; cinco, cofundador de proyectos locales; seis, investigador y siete (también más reciente), buscar el modo de desarrollar negocios y oportunidades pero, en eso nos estamos formando.
Volviendo a la pregunta inicial, cuando ciertas personas me han abordado en muchas oportunidades he respondido diciendo, “soy escritor y redactó artículos para una página web” y en otras ocasiones he respondido: “trabajo con criptomonedas”. Pero, atendiendo a la analogía de la conferencia del Filósofo y educador español, José Antonio Marina creo que ambas respuestas no han sido la mejor imagen de mi labor, quizá no siendo útil en el momento de mirar todo el panorama.
Antes de proseguir, me gustaría recomendarte la conferencia, y puedas oír la analogía de la propia voz del filósofo, que aunque intentaré parafrasearla no será igual.
Parafraseando la analogía:
“En un pueblo estaban construyendo una catedral y llaman a todos canteros del pueblo para tallar rocas ornamentales. Una persona se acercó y comenzó a preguntarles a cada uno que hacia. El primero respondió algo así como: estoy aquí trabajando. El segundo dijo: estoy tallando unas rocas. Y el tercero y más interesante dijo: estoy construyendo una catedral.”
El tercer obrero tenía una narrativa mucho más poderosa, una que le permitía seguir motivado y centrado en su labor, ya que no perdía el panorama completo.
Personalmente siento que haber dado respuestas parciales me desperdigaba del propósito ulterior de mis quehaceres en Hive. Lo que me hace repensar la respuesta que daré la próxima vez que me pregunten “¿qué haces?” y también en lo que me digo a mi mismo cuando hago lo que hago en Hive.

Ahora, no es que Hive sea algo religioso para decir que estoy construyendo una catedral, pero, pensemos en la imagen de la catedral. Una catedral es un lugar emblemático y representativo de un lugar, es algo enorme e importante, creo que eso es lo que Hive debe significar para quienes de un modo u otro intentamos aportar a Hive.
Siguiendo con la imagen de edificar una catedral creo que nos puede no solo centrar, sino entender que no es algo que se logra de la noche a la mañana, hay catedrales que se han tardado 150 años en ser edificadas, otras más tiempo otras menos, en fin… Tenemos que cultivar una visión a largo plazo sabiendo que en el fondo estamos construyendo algo que puede tener un impacto a nivel global, indeciblemente mayor de lo que ya puede tener.

⛪ I am building a cathedral
Something that happens to me quite often is that people ask me, “What do you do for a living?” and I have given many different answers to this question over time. But recently, after watching one of these BBVA “Let's Learn Together” project conferences with Zully, we heard an analogy that we found incredibly accurate when it comes to thinking about the role each of us plays in the Hive blockchain.
For years, I have worked to make my work on Hive a way of life, which has led me down several paths: one, content creator; two, community founder and curator; three, Hive promoter; four, lecturer; five, co-founder of local projects; six, researcher; and seven (also more recent), looking for ways to develop businesses and opportunities, but we are still learning about that.
Returning to the initial question, when certain people have approached me on many occasions, I have responded by saying, “I am a writer and I write articles for a website,” and on other occasions I have responded, “I work with cryptocurrencies.” However, based on the analogy from the lecture by Spanish philosopher and educator José Antonio Marina, I believe that neither response has been the best representation of my work, perhaps not being useful when looking at the bigger picture.
Before continuing, I would like to recommend the lecture so you can hear the analogy in the philosopher's own voice, which, although I will try to paraphrase it, will not be the same.
To paraphrase the analogy:
“In a village, they were building a cathedral and called on all the stonemasons in the village to carve ornamental rocks. One person approached and began asking each of them what they were doing. The first replied something like, ‘I'm here working.’ The second said, ‘I'm carving some rocks.’ And the third, most interesting one said, ‘I'm building a cathedral.’”
The third worker had a much more powerful narrative, one that allowed him to remain motivated and focused on his work, as he did not lose sight of the big picture.
Personally, I feel that giving partial answers distracted me from the ultimate purpose of my work at Hive. This makes me rethink the answer I will give the next time someone asks me, “What do you do?” and also what I tell myself when I do what I do at Hive.
“I'm building a cathedral.”
Now, it's not that Hive is something religious to say that I'm building a cathedral, but let's think about the image of a cathedral. A cathedral is an emblematic and representative place, it is something huge and important, and I think that is what Hive should mean to those of us who, in one way or another, try to contribute to Hive.
Continuing with the image of building a cathedral, I believe that it can not only help us focus, but also understand that it is not something that can be achieved overnight. Some cathedrals have taken 150 years to build, others longer, others less, but in any case... We have to cultivate a long-term vision, knowing that deep down we are building something that can have a global impact, unspeakably greater than it already has.
