Ipswich QLD parkrun, Queensland, Australia.

We have been to Ipswich parkrun twice. The first time I walked carrying a bit of an injury back in 2019, the second time I ran. I remember the running visit the most because just after I crossed the finish line the volunteer handing out the finisher tokens accidently dropped them all over the ground. Lots of people tried to help, picking them up and sort them back into order but every second that pasted more and more people finished and confusion started to set in. Luckily the timekeeper kept recording. Somebody had the good idea just to get the next batch of tokens and edit the results later. While this was all happening, I stepped up and made all the finishers stand in line and told them not to leave until they had been issued with their finishing tokens. It sounds easy but people did not want to hang around, many did not care about their finishing time or position. If somebody left, we had to pocket their token. Luckily, I only had 20 odd people lined up when the run director started to get back on top of things.

This parkrun starts at Bill Paterson Oval in Limestone Park. I have been to this park for some tough junior AFL football games as well, it brings back a lot of good memories. Ipswich in Queensland Australia was actually called Limestone Station and or Limestone Hills back in the day when convicts used to mine the Lime which was used to help build Brisbane.

I walked the course on this visit. 98 metres of elevation gain is quite a lot for a five-kilometre parkrun.
