Hello, hello, internet people! How are you? This year, 2025, which we left behind almost a month ago, was truly productive for me in every way, thank God, but especially in terms of literature, as I had the opportunity to read a lot, sometimes in my free time at work, and other times when I was at home. Sometimes it was physical books and other times in digital format, but today I'm going to give you a summary of those I considered the most important and precious, the ones that touched my soul and stayed there.

Este 2025 que dejamos atrás hace casi un mes fue realmente productivo para mi en todos los sentidos, gracias a Dios, pero en especial en materia de literatura, pues tuve la oportunidad de leer muchísimo, algunas veces en mis momentos libres en el trabajo, y otras veces cuando estaba en casa, en algunas ocasiones se trataba de libros físicos y en otras en formato digital, pero de todos ellos hoy voy a darles un resumen por los que consideré los más importantes y preciados, los que me llegaron al alma y se quedaron allí.

I loved this book because it was like a window through which I could see, analyze, and discover Gabriel García Márquez, the great Colombian author. I understood his somewhat peculiar personality and, above all, the origins of his fascination with magical realism, his connection to his family, and the beautiful relationship he shared with his wife, Mercedes Barcha. I also loved reading about the exact origins of all those great books that brought him fame and led to his receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature. The biography also reveals that each of García Márquez's books contains much of himself, not only as an author but also as a character. In fact, his own family and the places he visited became inspiration for his characters. He also used historical events that, in some way, marked his life. This is how reality and fantasy blended in his stories, thanks to that marvelous skill that, although it already existed in the world of literature, he made famous: magical realism.
Este libro me encantó porque fue como una ventana a través de la cuál pude ver, analizar y descubrir a Gabriel García Márquez, el gran autor colombiano, entender su personalidad algo peculiar y sobre todo de donde provenía su fascinación por el realismo mágico, la conexión que tenía con su familia y esa relación tan hermosa que mantuvo con su esposa, Mercedes Barcha. También amé leer acerca de como nacieron exactamente todos esos grandes libros que lo llevaron a la fama y lo condujeron a recibir el premio nobel de literatura. La biografía también nos revela que cada uno de los libros de García Márquez tiene mucho de si mismo, no solo como autor sino como personaje, y de hecho su propia familia y los lugares en los que él estuvo se convirtieron en inspiración para personajes, también usó hechos históricos que de alguna manera marcaron su vida, fue así como la realidad y la fantasía se mezclaron en sus relatos por causa de esa maravillosa habilidad que aunque ya existía en el mundo de la literatura, él la hizo famosa, me refiero desde luego al realismo mágico.

It was nice to rediscover this book because I remember that the first time I came across it was when I was attending ballet classes. At that time, my mom would first take me to the public library so I could choose the books I wanted her to read to me during the week. I say “for her to read to me” because I was only four or five years old and didn't know how to read yet, but I remember perfectly well that both the cover and the title of this book caught our attention, and when my mom started reading to me, I discovered that it was about a boy who loved dance as much as I did. But now that I've had the opportunity to read it as an adult, I realize that it's more than just a book about a boy who loves art. It's the story of a misunderstood and judged boy, simply because others can't understand that art is not inherent to sexual preferences, much less synonymous with weakness. To be a dancer, you have to be daring, strong, and determined, and it's something my mom and I saw every day, the way people outside the academy judged the boys who studied classical ballet at the school where I studied, without knowing whether or not they were gay. But the most beautiful thing about the book is that it highlights that this isn't important, whether you're gay or not, but rather doing what you love, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and hard work for what you love to do.
Fue lindo reencontrarme con este libro porque yo recuerdo que la primera vez que tuve contacto con él fue cuando yo asistía a clases de ballet, en esa época mi mamá me llevaba primero a la biblioteca pública para que yo eligiera los libros que quería que ella me leyera en la semana, digo "para que ella me leyera" porque yo solo tenía cuatro o cinco años y aún no sabía leer, pero recuerdo perfectamente que nos llamó mucho la atención tanto la portada como el título de este libro y cuando mi mamá empezó a leer para mi, descubrí que se trataba de un niño que amaba la danza tanto como yo, pero ahora que tuve la oportunidad de leerlo de adulta me di cuenta que va más allá de ser un libro sobre un niño que ama el arte, es la historia de un niño incomprendido y juzgado solo porque los demás no pueden entender que el arte no es inherente a las preferencias sexuales y mucho menos es sinónimo de debilidad. Para ser bailarín hay que ser osado, fuerte y decidido, y es algo que mi mamá y yo veíamos a diario, la manera en que los que estaban fuera de la academia juzgaban a los chicos que estudiaban ballet clásico en la escuela donde yo estudiaba, sin saber si eran o no gays, pero lo más hermoso del libro es que resalta que esto no es importante, ser gay o no, sino hacer lo que te gusta, enfatizar la importancia de la constancia y el trabajo duro por aquello que amas hacer.

I loved this book not only for the stories (since I love Japanese folklore) but also because it was illustrated by my favorite artist, the great Benjamin Lacombe 😍. I love his style because it's different from anything I'd seen before; it's a fascinating style that's somewhat reminiscent of Tim Burton. The book contains a compilation of stories inspired by entities from Japanese folklore, also called yokai, which, contrary to what you might think, aren't all bad. Some are benevolent entities, and in this way, it tells us about their nature, how they act in certain situations, and how they interact with human beings. Benjamin's illustrations give the work a greater character; they help us immerse ourselves in that supernatural and ethereal world. I don't know, it's simply fascinating, which is why it's my favorite.
Este libro me encantó no solo por las historias (ya que amo el folclore japonés) sino porque fue ilustrado por mi artista favorito, el gran Benjamin Lacombe 😍, amo su estilo porque es diferente a lo que yo había visto antes, es un estilo fascinante que de cierta manera recuerda a Tim Burton. El libro contiene una compilación de algunos relatos inspirados en entidades del folclore japonés, también llamados yokais, que contrario a los que ustedes podrían pensar, no todos ellos son malos, algunas son entidades positivas, y de esta manera nos habla de su naturaleza, la manera en que ellos actúan frente a determinadas situaciones y con los seres humanos. Las imágenes de Benjamin le dan un mayo carácter a la obra, nos ayudan a sumergirnos en ese mundo sobre natural y etéreo, no lo sé, es simplemente fascinante, pro eso es mi preferido.
