    Roseline and I

Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today’s topic is from Hive-Reachout, which says:Your Favourite Catch-Phrase. So let’s dive in.

Honestly, I have two favourite catch-phrases I always say, but I would love to talk about my favourite catch-phrases. Among the two catch-phrases I love saying, grace will speak. It was one of my friends that made me start using this phrase, so follow me as I explain why.

It was during our 300-level second semester. That day, I noticed that my friend Rose was looking sad and almost felt like crying. When I asked her what happened, she didn’t want to tell me. But after pestering her for some time, she finally opened up to me. That was when I discovered that my friend was really going through a lot, and I didn’t even know.

The same thing goes for many people. Just because they are smiling, laughing, joking, and acting normal doesn’t mean everything is fine. Inside, their hearts it's very heavy. It is only when they open up to us and explain what they are passing through that we realize our own problems may be small compared to theirs. Like I said, it was only when my friend Rose explained what she was going through that I became emotional, because I realized her problems were not small.

She had once told me during our 100 level that she lost both her parents and that she was living with her uncle (her mother’s younger brother). But anytime I noticed she was feeling down and asked her what was wrong, she would only tell me what she wanted me to know, saying everything was fine, until she finally opened up to me.

She told me how she is the only one doing the household chores, cooking, washing everyone’s clothes, despite the fact that there is a thirteen-year-old girl in the house, who is not even the only child they have. If they need anything from the market, she is the one that goes to buy everything, repeating the same routine every day. She is also the one that takes them to school before she starts preparing for school herself.

She also said that sometimes they don’t give her transport money. That was why last semester she started selling chin-chin just to have money for transport. Now that we are in our final year, everything has become more difficult for her because we have started our project work. She is now looking for project money, transport money, and other expenses in case our department asks us to pay for anything. But I thank God that she has paid her school fees, which has relieved her a little from the financial stress, according to her.

What touched me the most was that she trusted me enough to share her pain. Honestly, it is not easy to talk about our struggles, especially when we don’t know if people will understand us or judge us. She was saying how tired and confused she feels. She even said that if not for her boyfriend helping her with transport money sometimes, she would have quit school.

Some people prefer to keep everything inside and pretend they are fine. So for her to open up to me showed how much she needed someone to listen. One thing I really admire about her is that, despite everything she is going through, she has never used her body to look for money.

I didn’t have answers or solutions to her problems because I also have my own problems I am facing. I couldn’t change her situation or make everything better immediately. All I could do was listen to her and let her know she wasn’t alone. I kept telling her that grace will definitely speak for her when the time comes, and that was when I started using the phrase grace will speak.

In conclusion, no matter what problem each of us is passing through, I strongly believe that one day grace will definitely speak for us and open doors we never expected.

This is my entry for the Hive-Reachout Weekly Prompt 84.

You did quite a beautiful thing. We need to keep encouraging people. We don’t know what each person is going through but when we have the opportunity, we shouldn’t hesitate to listen. And yes, Grace will speak.
