Continuing with short series, the next one I chose was The Red Road. This series is a police drama divided into two seasons of six episodes each. I really love short series because the plot has to impress from the very beginning and maintain that level of excitement throughout each episode. Long series are often much less impactful until they manage to surprise you at some point.
The story is divided into two plots, which at some point merge because the paths lead to the same place. I'm not going to lie, I chose this series because Jason Momoa, who plays Kopus, is in it. We meet a member of a tribe with a criminal past who gets into new conflicts after getting out of prison. Due to his personality, he is someone who falls back into conflict and resumes his illegal activities. He is impulsive and fights for loyalty to his family. However, after learning some things that pit him against his own community, they seem to turn their backs on him, knowing that he could bring trouble home.
Siguiendo con las series cortas, la siguiente que elegí fue The Red Road. Este estilo de serie es de carácter policial en la que su historia se divide en dos temporadas de 6 episodios cada una. La verdad que a mí me encantan las series cortas, porque la trama debe de impresionar desde el primer momento y mantenerse en cada episodio. Las series largas posiblemente sean mucho menos impactantes hasta que en algún momento logra sorprender.
La historia se logra dividir en dos tramas, que en algún momento se fusionan a causa de que los caminos llevan al mismo sitio. No voy a mentir, seleccioné esta serie al ver que actuaba Jason Momoa, quien interpreta a Kopus; conocemos a un miembro de una tribu con un pasado criminal, que logra recaer en nuevos conflictos luego de salir de prisión. Debido a su personalidad, es alguien que vuelve a caer en conflictos y a reanudar sus actividades ilegales. Es alguien impulsivo, que lucha por la lealtad a su familia. Aunque luego de saber algunas cosas que lo enfrentan a su propia comunidad y que estos parecen darle la espalda al saber que podría traer problemas a casa.
On the other hand, we also learn the story of a police officer named Harold, who is quite serious and committed, but who later finds himself in trouble because of his wife, who suffers from schizophrenia, which makes things even worse by turning him into an accomplice to the things she hides. Their paths intertwine with Kopus, leading to a series of discoveries that reveal how corrupt the community they live in is, as well as the secrets that lie waiting to be uncovered.
Por otra parte, también conocemos la historia de un policía llamado Harold, que es bastante serio y comprometido, pero que luego se ve envuelto en problemas por su esposa quien sufre de esquizofrenia, lo que agrava aún más las cosas convirtiéndolo en cómplice de las cosas que ella ocultase. Los caminos se entrelazan con Kopus, entrando en una serie de descubrimientos que hacen notar qué tan corrupta es la comunidad en la que están insertados como los secretos que hay por descubrir.
There is also a third character named Junior, who could be considered the main character. He is a young man who is very loyal to his community, but who gets mixed up in crime, putting everything else aside, especially his studies. To complicate matters further, he falls in love, which seems to bring with it the threats of a relationship that cannot be. Nevertheless, their paths will cross at some point.
También hay un tercer personaje llamado Junior, que podríamos considerar como principal. Es un joven muy fiel a su comunidad, que se va mezclando con el delito dejando todo de lado, sobre todo sus estudios. Si algo más complica las cosas es un amor que parece traer consigo las amenazas de una relación que no puede ser. Igualmente los caminos se juntarán en algún momento.
What I like (it's not that I enjoy seeing two communities fighting) is seeing the action that takes place at certain moments, as tension builds, but... What is the source of this tension? I can tell you that the underlying conflict stems from a community in the town of Walpole and the Ramapough tribe. This tribe is on the defensive, trying to preserve their community and prevent themselves from being displaced by projects that could destroy their people's roots and customs. However, there is also conflict surrounding the disappearance of a student, causing things to spiral out of control and prompting an attempt to uncover the truth when no one else seemed willing to try.
There are elements in this series that are conveyed very well and manage to have an impact on the viewer. There are some small details that I didn't like, such as someone who has cancer but doesn't seem to get sick during the two seasons and has more agility and vitality than anyone else. The other negative point I can highlight is that there is no third season, and the series leaves the ending loose and unfinished. According to my research, the audience targets were not met, and for that reason, the series ended in 2015 with no possibility of a continuation (it has been almost 11 years since then).
Lo que me gusta (en realidad no es que disfrute que dos comunidades se peleen) es ver la acción que hay en ciertos momentos, ya que se produce una tensión, pero... ¿Cuál es el origen de esta? Les puedo decir que el conflicto base proviene de una comunidad del pueblo de Walpole con el de la tribu de los Ramapough. Esta tribu está a la defensiva de mantener su comunidad y no ser expulsados por proyectos que podrían destruir las raíces y costumbres de su gente. Pero también se produce un conflicto por la desaparición de un estudiante, haciendo que las cosas se salgan de control y exista un intento de buscar la verdad cuando nadie más parecía intentarlo.
En esta serie hay elementos que se transmiten muy bien y que logran impactar en uno. Lo que sí tal vez hayan algunos pequeños detalles que no me gustaron, como alguien que está enfermo de cáncer y que durante las dos temporadas no parece enfermar y tiene más agilidad y vitalidad que uno. El otro punto que puedo destacar negativamente es que no hay una tercer temporada, y la serie deja el final suelto e inconcluso. Según investigué, no se llegó a los objetivos de audiencia planteados, y por esa razón la serie culminó en 2015 sin posibilidad de una continuación (ya pasaron prácticamente 11 años desde entonces).
I recommend this series if you are interested in crime dramas, conspiracy, and corruption, set in two communities in different locations surrounded by forests and mountains. I simply enjoyed it, except for that detail that leaves you wanting more. If you overlook this, you could still enjoy it.
Una serie que la recomiendo si te interesan dramas policiales, conspiración y corrupción, desarrolladas en torno a dos comunidades de distintas locaciones en un ambiente de bosques y montañas. A mí simplemente me gustó, salvo ese detalle que te deja sabor a querer más. Si obvias esto, podrías disfrutarla igualmente.
