I know, you're probably thinking: "Isn't that a really old soap opera from the 80s?" Yes, but this is the new version and, let me tell you, it's total madness, a glamorous and addictive mess from start to finish. I started watching it almost by mistake and now, I literally breathe the Carrington drama. So, picture this: a disgustingly rich family, the Carringtons, who basically own Atlanta and run it from their absurdly giant mansion. The patriarch, Blake Carrington, is the big boss of a multi-billion dollar energy company, Carrington Atlantic. When I say luxury, I'm not kidding, it's a level that seems fake, a non-stop stream of champagne, caviar, private jets, and parties where the flower budget is surely higher than my entire year's salary.
Visually, the show is stunning, every scene screams "money" in your face—the mansions, the designer clothes, the fancy cars, the parties... you really feel like you've stepped into a parallel universe of millionaires. It was like a Gossip Girl for adults and on steroids, it's the quintessential mega-produced soap opera about the lives of the rich and famous, and I'm hooked. But here's the good part: underneath all that glitz and glamour, this family is a disaster, a complete and utter disaster. We're talking about a level of toxicity you can't even imagine. The entire dynasty is built on lies, backstabbing, manipulation, and blackmail. What drives the whole plot, especially at the beginning, is that fight to the death to see who gets the family business. The age-old question, but here it's super juicy: who will inherit the empire?
Hola a todos, amigos fanáticos de las buenas historias, espero que estén bien hoy, amigos de Movies and TV Shows, en esta ocasión, les quiero hablar un poco de una serie, se llama Dynasty.. ya sé, seguro están pensando: "¿No es esa una novela viejísima de los 80?".. sí, pero esta es la versión nueva y, déjenme decirles, es una locura total, un desmadre glamoroso y adictivo de principio a fin.. la empecé a ver casi por error y ahora, literal, respiro el drama de los Carrington.. a ver, imagínense esto: una familia asquerosamente rica, los Carrington, que básicamente son los dueños de Atlanta y la manejan desde su mansión absurdamente gigante. El patriarca, Blake Carrington, es el mero mero de una compañía de energía multimillonaria, Carrington Atlantic.. cuando digo lujo, no estoy bromeando, es un nivel que parece de mentira, es un no parar de champaña, caviar, jets privados y fiestas donde el presupuesto para las flores seguro es más alto que mi sueldo de todo un año.
Visualmente, la serie es una pasada, cada escena te grita "dinero" en la cara.. las mansiones, la ropa de diseñador, los carrazos, las fiestas... de verdad sientes que te metiste a un universo paralelo de millonarios.. era como una Gossip Girl para adultos y con esteroides, es la telenovela mega producida por excelencia sobre la vida de los ricos y famosos, y a mí me tiene enganchado, pero aquí viene lo bueno: debajo de todo ese brillo y glamour, esta familia es un desastre, pero un desastre con todas sus letras. Hablamos de un nivel de toxicidad que ni se imaginan.. toda la dinastía está construida a punta de mentiras, puñaladas por la espalda, manipulación y chantaje.. lo que mueve toda la trama, sobre todo al principio, es esa pelea a muerte por ver quién se queda con el negocio familiar. La pregunta de siempre, pero que aquí es súper jugosa: ¿quién va a heredar el imperio?
And this brings me to the real gem of the series, the reason you'll get hooked: Fallon Carrington. The actress, Elizabeth Gillies, plays her spectacularly. You probably recognize her from the Nickelodeon show "Victorious"—she was one of my first crushes, but anyway... at first glance, she's the typical cliché of the rich, spoiled, meddling, and self-centered girl. She expects her dad, Blake, to hand over the company and name her the boss. But obviously, he has other plans, and that fight between them is, literally, the heart of the entire series. At first, you'll probably hate her; she's super sharp-tongued, arrogant, and will do whatever it takes to get her way.
But as the episodes go on, you start to see her other layers. She has a vulnerable side and a bulletproof loyalty to the people she truly loves. You'll suddenly find yourself rooting for her, even when she's acting like a... well, you know. Plus, she has some lines that are pure gold, some of the best in the whole show. You'll go from hating her to loving her, sometimes in the same scene. The rest of the characters complete this family picture, and even though it's super cliché, you actually grow fond of them. There's Blake, the badass, manipulative dad that Grant Show plays so well it's almost scary. Then there's Fallon's brother, Steven, who at the beginning is like the family's conscience, the idealist who wants to do good and stay out of the dirty business. Of course, you couldn't miss the new stepmother who appears out of nowhere, Cristal, or the butler who knows everything and is always there, Anders.
And even though they sound like textbook characters, the actors bring them to life so well that they fascinate you. You get hooked trying to figure out what they really want. Now, I have to be honest with you. The first few episodes... you might feel like dropping it. I've heard from many people who quit it quickly because they found it too exaggerated or felt they'd seen the story before. My advice, and I'm serious, is: STICK WITH IT! Give it a chance! Seriously. The show slowly grabs you and doesn't let go, the script gets better and more tangled. Everything becomes more intense, the twists get crazier, and by the time the first season ends, you're a total addict. The season one finale is, without a doubt, one of the best moments of the series; the final storylines are so worth it that you'll be glad you didn't quit. I swear you'll end up screaming at the screen.
Y esto me lleva a la verdadera joya de la serie, la razón por la que se van a quedar pegados: Fallon Carrington.. la actriz, Elizabeth Gillies, la hace espectacular.. seguro la reconocen por la serie de Nickelodeon "Victorius" ella fue de mis primeros crushes, pero bueno.. a primera vista, es el típico cliché de la niña rica, mimada, metiche y que solo piensa en ella.. ella espera que su papá, Blake, le suelte la empresa y la nombre la jefa. Pero obvio, él tiene otros planes, y esa pelea entre ellos es, literal, el corazón de toda la serie.. al principio, seguro la van a odiar, es súper ácida, arrogante y hace lo que sea con tal de salirse con la suya.
Pero conforme avanzan los capítulos, le vas viendo otras capas.. tiene un lado vulnerable y una lealtad a prueba de balas con la gente que de verdad quiere, de repente te cachas apoyándola, incluso cuando se está portando como una… bueno, ustedes ya saben. Además, tiene unas frases que son oro puro, de las mejores de toda la serie.. van a pasar de odiarla a amarla, a veces en la misma escena.. el resto de los personajes completan este cuadro familiar, que aunque es súper cliché, la verdad es que les agarras cariño. Está Blake, el papá cabrón y manipulador que Grant Show interpreta tan bien que hasta da miedito, luego está el hermano de Fallon, Steven, que al principio es como la conciencia de la familia, el idealista que quiere hacer el bien y no meterse en los negocios sucios.. claro, no podía faltar la nueva madrastra que aparece de la nada, Cristal, o el mayordomo que todo lo sabe y siempre está ahí, Anders.
Y aunque suenen a personajes de manual, los actores les dan tanta vida que te fascinan.. te quedas picado intentando descifrar qué es lo que realmente quieren.. ahora, les tengo que ser honesto. Los primeros capítulos… chance y les den ganas de dejarla, he escuchado de mucha gente que la botó muy rápido porque les pareció demasiado exagerada o que la historia ya la habían visto.. mi consejo, y se los digo en serio, es: ¡AGUANTEN! ¡Denle una oportunidad! En serio. La serie te atrapa poco a poco y no te suelta, el guion se pone cada vez mejor y más enredado.. todo se vuelve más intenso, los giros son más locos y para cuando acaba la primera temporada, ya eres un adicto total. El final de la primera temporada es, sin duda, de los mejores momentos de la serie, las tramas del final valen tanto la pena que se van a alegrar de no haberla dejado, se los juro que van a terminar gritándole a la pantalla.
The plot is a constant bombardment of gossip, betrayals, and dirty moves. Here, money is the least of their worries—they spend it like water—it's all about status, power, and loyalty. That loyalty, wow, is tested in every chapter and in every way possible. Family, friends, business partners... no one is safe here. The dialogue is so direct and sharp that it sometimes leaves you breathless. One minute they're discussing a company acquisition, and the next, bam!, someone drops a bombshell like: "Bigamy is illegal in the state of Georgia," or casually reveals: "This is Liam, my husband," in front of a room full of stunned, open-mouthed people. It gets to a point where you think nothing can get crazier, and then suddenly someone admits something like: "I slept with my cousin and I didn't even know it."
Yes, I swear that happens. As the series progresses, especially in the newer seasons, it just surrenders to its own brilliant madness. I was a bit worried after the first season, thinking: "How are they going to keep this pace up?" The second season did have some slower, kind of weird moments, but stick with it, because the third season comes back with a vengeance and is phenomenal. It's filled with brilliant stories, characters with hilarious and complicated arcs, and plot twists you truly don't see coming.
For example, we have the EPIC return of the legendary Alexis Carrington, Fallon's mother, who teams up with a rival to take Blake down. Her fight with Blake is electric, but her complicated relationship with Fallon is even better. Then there's a whole storyline where Liam—Fallon's love interest—loses his memory, which sounds like the cheapest soap opera cliché, but the show handles it in such an interesting way that it hooks you. You're there, desperately waiting for them to find their way back to each other. We also meet Dominique, who is, without a doubt, the most gloriously narcissistic and self-centered character in a show that's already full of them.
La trama es un bombardeo constante de chismes, traiciones y movidas sucias.. aquí la plata es lo de menos —la gastan como si fuera agua—, de lo que se trata es de estatus, de poder y de lealtad.. esa lealtad, uff, la ponen a prueba en cada capítulo y de todas las formas posibles. Familia, amigos, socios de negocios... aquí nadie se salva, el diálogo es tan directo y tan filoso que a veces te deja sin aire, en un minuto están discutiendo la compra de una empresa y al siguiente, ¡pum!, alguien suelta una bomba como: "La bigamia es ilegal en el estado de Georgia", o revela como si nada: "Él es Liam, mi esposo", frente a una sala llena de gente con la boca abierta. Llega un punto en el que piensas que ya nada puede ser más loco, y de repente alguien admite algo como: "Me acosté con mi primo y ni siquiera lo sabía".
Sí, se los juro que eso pasa.. a medida que la serie avanza, sobre todo en las temporadas más nuevas, simplemente se entrega a su propia y genial locura, a mí me preocupaba un poco después de la primera temporada, pensaba: "¿cómo van a mantener este ritmo?". La segunda temporada sí tuvo momentos un poco más lentos, medio raros, pero aguanten, porque la tercera temporada regresa con todo y es fenomenal.. está llena de historias brillantes, personajes con unas vueltas divertidísimas y complicadas, y unos giros de trama que de verdad no te esperas.
Por ejemplo, tenemos el regreso ÉPICO de la legendaria Alexis Carrington, la mamá de Fallon, que se alía con un rival para hundir a Blake.. su pelea con Blake es eléctrica, pero su relación toda complicada con Fallon es todavía mejor. Luego hay toda una trama donde Liam —el galán de Fallon— pierde la memoria, que suena al cliché más barato de telenovela, pero la serie lo maneja de una forma tan interesante que te engancha.. estás ahí, desesperado, esperando que encuentren la forma de volver.. también conocemos a Dominique, que es, sin duda, el personaje más gloriosamente narcisista y egocéntrico en una serie que ya está llena de ellos.
And oh, I still need to talk about Adam Carrington. He's a character who appears later on and who, seriously, you will love to hate. What happens with him is a rollercoaster: he goes from being a complete scoundrel to almost likable, and then suddenly, bam!, he's back to being the same heartless monster. He always keeps you in suspense, and the dynamic he has with the rest of the family adds incredible tension to everything. Look, is the series perfect? Not at all. It's fiction, and a deliciously exaggerated fiction at that. If you're very picky, you'll surely find some small flaws here and there: maybe someone's hairstyle changed a bit between scenes or an object moved.
And some plots are complete nonsense... but that's the fun of it! It doesn't try to be a super dense and realistic drama; the series knows exactly what it is: pure entertainment, a visually incredible and excessive escape. It's one of those shows that can make you die laughing with its sharp dialogue and fights one moment, and the next, leave you with your heart in your throat with a brutal cliffhanger. So, my final verdict? I give Dynasty a solid 7.5/10. It's not a 10 because, let's be real, it's not trying to be The Sopranos. But for what it aims to be—a modern, exciting, glamorous, and super addictive soap opera—it's almost perfect. It's the kind of series you put on when you want to forget about the real world and just get lost in this mess of treacherous millionaires, incredible clothes, and plot twists that will have you hitting "next episode" until 3 in the morning. Y ah, me falta hablarles de Adam Carrington.. es un personaje que aparece más adelante y que, en serio, van a amar odiar.. lo que pasa con él es una montaña rusa: pasa de ser un completo desgraciado a casi caerte bien, y de la nada, ¡pum!, vuelve a ser el mismo monstruo sin corazón.. te tiene siempre en suspenso, y la dinámica que tiene con el resto de la familia le mete una tensión increíble a todo. Miren, ¿la serie es perfecta? No, para nada, es ficción, y una ficción deliciosamente exagerada.. si se ponen muy fijados, seguro le van a encontrar algún errorcito por ahí: que si el peinado de alguien cambió un poquito entre escenas o una cosa se movió de lugar.
Y algunas tramas son un completo disparate.. pero esa es la gracia! No intenta ser un drama súper denso y realista, la serie sabe perfectamente lo que es: puro entretenimiento, un escape visualmente increíble y lleno de excesos.. es de esas series que te puede hacer morir de la risa con los diálogos y las peleas súper filosas en un momento, y al siguiente te deja con el corazón en la boca con un final de capítulo brutal. Así que, ¿mi veredicto final? A Dynasty yo le doy un 7.5/10 bien puesto.. no es un 10 porque, a ver, no está tratando de ser Los Soprano.. pero para lo que busca ser —una telenovela moderna, emocionante, glamorosa y súper adictiva— es casi perfecta, es la típica serie que te pones cuando quieres olvidarte del mundo real y simplemente perderte en este desmadre de millonarios traicioneros, ropa increíble y giros en la trama que te van a tener dándole a "siguiente episodio" hasta las 3 de la mañana.. así que, por favor, se los ruego, denle una oportunidad.. y bueno, hasta aquí la reseña de hoy!
