Look at those fierce waves! What could have possibly angered the sea so much? The giant waves battered the stones near the shore all day long, creating a spectacular display of white foam that caught everyone's attention.

After ten days of rain, we were finally able to go outside thanks to the white clouds that appeared in the sky. It has been raining in Antalya for ten days. In fact, there are constant warnings about floods. Some roads have been closed, especially in the districts of Antalya, due to the excessive rain. On Saturday, when the sun showed itself briefly through the white clouds, we seized the opportunity to go outside. After such rains, the first place people are curious about is Konyaaltı beach. So we went to that beach.
On gün süren yağmurun ardından, gökyüzünde beliren beyaz bulutlar sayesinde nihayet dışarı çıkabildik. Antalya'da on gündür yağmur yağıyor. Hatta sürekli sel uyarıları yapılıyor. Özellikle Antalya'nın ilçelerinde aşırı yağış nedeniyle bazı yollar kapatıldı. Cumartesi günü, beyaz bulutların arasından güneşin kısa bir süreliğine görünmesiyle, dışarı çıkma fırsatını değerlendirdik. Bu tür yağmurlardan sonra insanların merak ettiği ilk yer Konyaaltı plajı oluyor. Biz de o plaja gittik.
Konyaaltı beach is one of the most popular and closest beaches to the city center for Antalya residents, especially on weekends. In summer, it's one of the longest beaches in Türkiye, visited by both domestic and foreign tourists for swimming. This is because it offers options for everyone. With its bike path, jogging track, playgrounds, and cafes and restaurants lining the beach, it attracts a wide range of visitors. When the weather is nice, I come here early in the morning for a run. In the evenings, we set up our tables and chairs on the grass and enjoy the beautiful beach while chatting with my friends. The beach, almost 10 kilometers long, is surrounded by numerous hotels and accommodation options.
Konyaaltı sahili, Antalyalılar için özellikle hafta sonları şehir merkezine en yakın ve en popüler sahil kenarlarından biridir. Yazın da yerli ve yabancı turistin denize girmek için ziyaret ettikleri Türkiye'nin en uzun plajları arasındadır. Çünkü burada her kesime hitap eden alternatifler var. Bisiklet yolu, koşu parkuru, oyun parkları ve sahil boyunda sıralanmış kafe ve restoranlar sayesinde herkesin ilgisini çekiyor. Havalar güzel olduğunda, sabahın erken saatlerinde buraya koşmaya geliyorum. Akşamları da sahil kenarında yanımızda getirdiğimiz masa ve sandalyeleri çimenin üstüne koyarak dostlarımla sohbet ederek güzel sahilin tadını çıkarıyoruz. Sahilin neredeyse 10 kilometre uzunluğundaki geniş plajının etrafında çok sayıda otel ve konaklama alternatifleri de bulunuyor.
When we arrived at the beach, we saw giant waves that we had never encountered before in Konyaaltı. Many people had already shared these images of the beach on social media. We saw that during the rain, the huge waves reached the cafes around the beach, causing significant damage to the businesses. Everyone was frantically trying to clean up the water that had reached their establishments. As I said, we had never seen Konyaaltı like this before. Even though the sun came out on Saturday afternoon, the giant waves continued their spectacle. Everyone had come to the beach to see this sight. In fact, the huge waves had swept the pebbles under the beach, in some places the pebbles had disappeared and the sand was exposed.
Biz sahile geldiğimizde daha önce Konyaaltında hiç karşılaşmadığımız dev dalgaları gördük. Zaten sosyal medyada da sahilin bu görüntülerini birçok kez paylaşmışlardı. Yağmur yağdığı sırada dev dalgalar plajın etrafındaki kafelere kadar geldiğini ve işletmelerin çok mağdur olduklarını gördük. Herkes bir telaş içinde işletmeye kadar gelen suları temizlemeye çalışıyordu. Dediğim gibi Konyaaltını daha önce hiç böyle görmemiştik. Cumartesi günü öğleden sonra güneş kendini gösterse bile denizin dev dalgaları gösterisine devam ediyordu. Herkes bu manzarayı görmek için sahile gelmişti. Hatta dev dalga suları sahilin çakıl taşlarını altına almış, bazı yerlerde çakıllar kaybolmuş ve kumlar ortaya çıkmış.
We were watching the sea and the huge waves from a walking path near the very end of the beach, in front of the cafes. Some sections of the coastline are protected by iron railings. Walking along the beach, we watched the sea and the ferocity of those magnificent, giant waves. In the middle of the wide beach, everyone sitting on the long white steps built by the municipality also watched this visual spectacle of the waves.
Biz sahilin en sonuna yakın bir yerde yürüme parkurunda kafelerin önünden denizi ve dev dalgaları izliyorduk. Sahil şeridinin bazı bölümleri demir parmaklıklarla korunuyor. Sahil boyunca yürüyerek, denizi ve o muhteşem dev dalgaların hırçınlığını izliyorduk. Geniş alana sahip sahilin orta kısmında belediyenin yaptırdığı beyaz uzun merdivenlere oturan herkes dalgaların bu görsel şölenini de izliyordu.
There's a saying, isn't there, that the moment when the weather was snapshot was exactly this. We were experiencing the strange state of the sky. The white clouds seemed so close; it felt like I could touch them if I reached out. The color tone of the sky was completely different. The rain had briefly hidden itself, and the sun was hesitantly trying to show itself. The constantly changing weather surprised even the sky. The sea, unwittingly, was sending its huge waves crashing against the rocks of the shore with the help of the wind. The foam created as the giant waves hit the rocks and the high-pitched sound they made as they receded were truly impressive. This sight of the sea was truly worth seeing.

We saw people walking down to the beach despite the waves. Some couldn't escape the waves and got their feet wet. Others tried to take pictures of the white clouds and huge waves that were visible near the sea. I also went down to the beach. I was prepared to get wet. I wanted to see up close how the waves came, covered the pebbles, and then receded. I even wanted to write something on the pristine-looking sand.
Sahilin plajına kadar inenleri ve dalgalara rağmen yürüyenleri gördük. Bazıları dalgalardan kaçamayarak ayaklarından ıslandılar. Bazıları ise, denize yakın görünen beyaz bulutların ve dev dalgaların resimlerini çekmeye çalıştılar. Aynı şekilde bende sahile indim. Islanmayı da göze almıştım. O dalgaların gelip çakılların üstünü örtüp, geri çekildiklerini yakından görmek istedim. Hatta tertemiz görünen kuma bir şeyler yazmalıydım.
The sea looked polluted by the waves. The waves carried the sand from between the pebbles into the sea, then brought it back again. The white clouds scattered across the blue sky seemed to be watching this process unfold. The clean, azure sea had receded far from the shore, almost to the point of being in the distance. From the shore, we could only see the muddy surface of the water.

Just imagine, even as I'm writing this, it's been raining all day. And it's intensifying now. Who knows what Konyaaltı is like right now... It seems we'll be seeing these scenes more often throughout the winter. We sat on those stone steps on the beach for a while, watching the view and the magnificent sound and foamy sight of the waves. The weather was gradually getting darker. We left the beach without wasting any time.

We headed towards the Roman Baths, a historical structure very close to Konyaaltı that I had always wanted to visit but kept putting off. I had only seen its sign while driving past, but never managed to go. The Roman Baths are located in the Gürsü neighborhood of Konyaaltı. Locally, it's known as the Black Church. The area around the structure is protected by iron railings; entry is not allowed. From the outside, the structure, which remains standing, has four arched doorways or entrance areas. The upper part of the structure, surrounded by green lawns, appears to be in ruins. They've cleared the surrounding vegetation and planted green grass. The interior consists of wall and vault ruins. The exterior, however, appears to be covered with rubble and modern waste materials.
Konyaaltına çok yakın olan ve sürekli gitmek isteyip de ertelediğim tarihi yapı Roma Hamamına doğru yöneldik. Aracımla geçerken sadece tabelasını gördüğüm ama bir türlü gidemediğim Roma Hamamı, Konyaaltının Gürsü mahallesinde yer alıyor. Halk arasında burası Kara Kilise olarak geçiyor. Yapının çevresi demir korkuluklarla korunuyor. İçeriye girilemiyor. Dışardan baktığımızda ayakla kalan yapının, kemer şeklinde dört kapısı ya da giriş alanı var. Yeşil çimenliklerin ortasında kalan yapının üst tarafı yıkılmış durumda görünüyor. Çevresinde bitkileri temizlemişler ve yeşil çimenler dikmişler. İç tarafı duvar ve tonoz yıkıntısından oluşuyor. Dış tarafı ise, moloz yapının üstüne yapılan dolgular ve modern atık malzemeleri ile kapatılmış durumda görünüyor.
The information panel about the Roman Baths stated that the structure was built at the end of the 3rd century AD and underwent significant structural and functional changes from a fire in the 6th century until the 14th century. The baths consisted of vaulted rooms, each with a different function, in accordance with Roman architecture. These included rooms such as changing rooms, a cold room, a lukewarm room, a hot room, and a gymnasium.
Roma Hamamı ile ilgili bilgilendirme panosunda, yapının İS 3. yüzyıl sonlarında yapılmış olup, 6. yüzyılda geçirdiği bir yangından sonra 14. yüzyıla kadar yapısal ve işlevsel olarak büyük değişikliklere uğradığı yazıyordu. Hamam, Roma mimarisine uygun olarak her birinin farklı bir işlevi olan tonozlu odalardan oluşmuş. Bunların içinde soyunma odası, soğukluk, ılıklık, sıcaklık ve spor salonu gibi odalardan oluşmuş.
Right next to the Roman Baths was the Antalya Fine Arts Education Center. We were curious about this center and went inside. I had always highly valued art, especially theater education. In fact, I had attended a similar course after graduating from high school. When we entered, Ms. Yurdanur greeted us. The center offered courses in many disciplines affiliated with the ministry. These included painting, music, dance, theater, and marbling art, among many others. We were very pleased that there were art forms catering to all age groups.
Roma Hamamının hemen yanında, Antalya Güzel Sanatlar Eğitim Merkezi vardı. Bu eğitim merkezini merak ettik ve içeri girdik. Sanata özellikle tiyatro eğitimine zamanında çok değer vermiştim. Hatta buna benzer bir eğitime liseden mezun olduktan sonra katılmıştım. İçeri girdiğimizde bizi Yurdanur Hanım karşıladı. Eğitim merkezinde, birçok dalda bakanlığa bağlı kurslar veriliyormuş. Bunların arasında, Resim, müzik, dans, tiyatro ve ebru sanatı gibi birçok sanat dalları var. Her yaş grubuna hitap eden sanat dallarının olması çok hoşumuza gitmişti.
One way to express our feelings, thoughts, and what we want to see is through art. We try to tell our dreams and aspirations with our pens and brushes. Apparently, classes are held in separate rooms at the training center on specific days and times of the week. We received some information about guitar and drama classes. While touring the rooms, we were very happy to see the shapes the little ones had made from clay.
Duygularımızı, düşüncelerimizi ve görmek istediklerimizi anlatmanın bir yoluna sanatın içinden geçer. Hayallerimizi ve düşlerimizi kalemimizle, fırçamızla anlatmaya çalışırız. Haftanın belirli günleri ve saatlerinde eğitim merkezinin ayrı ayrı odalarında eğitimler veriliyormuş. Biz, gitar ve drama eğitimi için birkaç bilgi aldık. Odaları gezerken, minik kalplerin çamurdan yaptıkları o şekilleri görünce çok mutlu olduk.
We left the training center after taking pictures of the visuals and materials showcasing the various art forms around it.

On our way home, we stopped at another place. Again, very close to the center of Antalya, it was the Glass Pyramid and the surrounding blue lake, a popular spot for relaxation. Located right next to the Atatürk Cultural Center, the Glass Pyramid stands out with its modern and aesthetic structure in the middle of a large, green area. Many cultural and artistic events and exhibitions are held here. A small lake lies nestled within the natural surroundings of the Glass Pyramid. This cultural park, which includes the Glass Pyramid, is one of the largest green spaces in Antalya, meticulously and carefully constructed. Within the park, there are playgrounds, walking paths, and dedicated cycling and running tracks for athletes. We sat by the lake in the park. There are grassy areas along the lake's edge. Ducks and geese swimming in the lake create postcard-perfect scenes.
Eve dönüş yolunda uğradığımız bir yer daha oldu. Yine Antalya merkezine çok yakın olan ve dinlenmek için herkesin sıklıkla geldiği Cam Piramit ve etrafındaki mavi göl oldu. Cam piramit, Atatürk Kültür Merkezinin hemen yanında yeşillik bir alanda geniş bir arazinin tam ortasında modern ve estetik yapısıyla göze çarpar. Burada kültür ve sanat adına bir çok etkinlik ve sergi düzenlenir. Cam piramitin hemen yanında da doğanın içinde küçük bir göl bulunur. Cam piramitin de içinde yer aldığı bu kültür parkı, Antalya'da özenle ve titizlikle yapılmış en büyük yeşil alanlarından birisidir. Burada park içinde oyun alanları, yürüyüş parkurları ve sporcular için ayrılmış bisiklet yolları ve koşu alanları var. Biz parkın içinde göl kenarında oturduk. Gölün kenarında çimenlik alanlar var. Gölde yüzen ördekler ve kazlar gölün üstünde kartpostal görünümünde manzaralar oluşturur.
The most beautiful aspect of the lake is the greenery surrounding it and the timeless trees. Sitting on benches on the green grass, we relaxed our minds and bodies in the tranquility of the surroundings, gazing at the magnificent view of the lake.
Gölün en güzel tarafı etrafındaki yeşillikler ve zamana meydan okuyan ağaçlardır. Yeşil çimenlerin üstündeki banklarda oturarak gölün o muhteşem manzarasına bakarak etrafın sessizliğiyle ruhumuzu ve bedenimizi dinlendirdik.
The pine trees and some of the green areas within the park are meticulously and carefully designed. We even tried to enjoy the surroundings and beauty by walking among the symmetrically arranged pine trees.

On this Saturday, when the weather permitted, we first encountered the huge waves of the sea on the coast. Then, we took a trip down memory lane and visited the historic Roman Baths. At the end of the day, we returned home, having shaken off our accumulated fatigue by the lake in a cultural park nestled among greenery. This was perhaps one of those rare days where we experienced art, history, and nature all intertwined.
Havanın bize izin verdiği bu Cumartesi gününde, ilk olarak sahil kenarında denizin kabaran dev dalgalarıyla karşılaştık. Ardından geçmişe yolculuk yaparak, tarihi Roma Hamamını gezdik. Günün sonunda yeşilliklerin arasında kurulmuş bir kültür parkının göl kenarında, içimizde biriken yorgunluğumuzu atarak, evimize geldik. Bu belki de sanatı, tarihi ve doğayı iç içe yaşadığımız nadir günlerden biriydi.
