I haven’t had the chance to explore this city on foot yet. However, my route often takes me along the A3 highway in Germany and right on top of one of the hills there is a parking area with a beautiful panoramic view over Würzburg.
Of course I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t stop there for a break and take a few frames. The views from this spot are genuinely impressive. I was there in spring, when everything was fresh and green and the colors were simply perfect.
So for now I can only share Würzburg seen from above. But I truly hope that one day I’ll make it down into the city and explore it properly, street by street. Knowing my routes, I’m sure I’ll pass this way again, maybe in a different season. I can already imagine how stunning this view must be in winter, when snow covers the surrounding hills.
A few interesting facts about Würzburg:
Würzburg lies on the Main River and is part of the famous Franconian wine region.
The city is home to the Würzburg Residence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important Baroque palaces in Europe.
Above the city rises the Marienberg Fortress, offering one of the best viewpoints in the area.
Würzburg is strongly connected to wine culture — vineyards surround the city on many sides.
It is also a historic university city, with the University of Würzburg founded in 1402.
