Hello everyone! Today, I love to share a simple story that reminds me how small things can bring big value to our daily life.

In life there are simple things we often forget to appreciate just like vegetables quietly growing in our backyard. One of those simple joys for us is radish. It may look ordinary, but in our home, radish has become something special.

Planting radish has given us many benefits. First, it gives us free food. Whenever we harvest, we already know what’s on the table, no need top buy food. Second, it also gives us small source of income. Extra harvest can be sold or shared through barter. And the best part, Radish is very easy and fats to grow. You plant it take care of it for a short tome and soon it’s ready to harvest.

Because we recently harvested again, our meal today is a simple but delicious radish salad.

Ingredients: Radish, tomatoes, calamans, green mango, ginger, onion, dried dilis and salt.

Most of these ingredients, radish, tomatoes, calamansi, ginger, onion came straight from our own garden. These days, tomatoes are expensive in our area, so having our own supply feels really rewarding.

How I made the radish salad: I peeled and washed the radish, sliced it thinly, added salt and gently squeezed it to removed the strong juice. After washing it again, I sliced the ginger, tomatoes and calamansi, then mixed everything together with the green mango,. Simple steps but very tasty.

A neighbor even gave us green mangoes, and I bartered some radish and tomatoes in return. Simple gardening and simple happiness with my community.
