3rd Place Victory - Saturday Hivechess Tournament

Today was the second round of the Saturday Hivechess tournament, and this time I felt much better while playing. In the previous round, I was feeling unwell and having a shitty day, hence the reason I played poorly. Today's round did not have a strong 2500+ player in the tournament. It was only @jaki01 who was the menace who did not hold back against any of his opponents. With a win rate of 100%, it was brutal for anybody who came across him. I played him twice in the tournament. In the first game, I got a pressing opportunity, but I could not convert fast enough because I was low on time, and in the second game, I had a good advantage until I blew it away with a one-move blunder that got me checkmated on the board. Oh, I also got paired against Jaki at first, where I did not make move, so I lost by default.

On the other hand, I fell for a mate in 1 and against stayoutoftherz, and I had a misclick against migmag. After being a queen up against Migmag, I went ahead to use my queen to capture a pawn that was well defended out of a misclick accident, so I lost that game. Hopefully, I was able to pull a Hail Mary in the remaining games to get a 53% win rate, which got me 3rd place.

This was the game against Jaki, where I lost on time. The game is quite an interesting one because of my opponent's choice of opening, which was a bit off for starters, which was a knight to c6. I did not hold back; I went on to play for the control of the center and play on his knight, and when the time came for the final blow against the opponent, it was a lovely queen sac for counterplay on his king, and I got it but there was not enough time to convert.

Here is the game where I fell for the checkmate in one move. Can you spot the checkmate? It was because I was in a hurry to probably convert the game to either a win or, at worst, a draw, so I could move on to getting more points since it was below 10 minutes on the countdown to the end of the tournament. This made me blind to the mate and the worst happened. I lost. If I had won this game, then I could have finished in 2nd place. Not all rosy but it is a start.

See you all in the next round.

Hi @southgamer, tough luck! But the checkmate was not in this position but only after I had played Qc6. Just in case some are desperately trying to find a mate here :)
