Working remotely has become a common practice nowadays and has shown a significant increase. This phenomenon not only changes working styles in general but also affects the function of cafés/coffee shops. Many remote workers prefer to work in cafés rather than at home or elsewhere, mostly because of the vibe, facilities, and of course, the coffee. For example, in Indonesia, my home country, working in cafés has become increasingly common and has turned into a trend. We even have an informal term, “WFC,” which stands for Work From Café, used to describe remote workers who do their work in cafés.

As a result, many cafés here have adjusted, upgraded, advertised themselves as, or even been built from the beginning to be WFC-friendly or dedicated to it. Strong Wi-Fi connection, communal tables, and sufficient electrical outlets are some of the basic infrastructure provided by cafés to support remote workers.

However, in most places, working can be uncomfortable under certain conditions, especially when it is crowded. People who need a quiet and calm environment can be easily distracted by surrounding noise from other remote workers or regular visitors who chat with each other, have group discussions, or conduct online meetings. This situation is often unavoidable, as most cafés—even those dedicated to WFC—are still public places that welcome everyone, including non-remote workers. This is not wrong, but it can be frustrating for some people.

However, this kind of frustration would not happen at a café called Couvee Reside in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. As a remote worker who prefers a quiet and calm environment, I felt truly blessed to discover this place. As a short background about the place, it is part of a coffee shop chain called Couvee, which already has eight branches: six in Yogyakarta, one in Solo, and one in Bandung. With a total of eight branches and a strong reputation for high-quality coffee, this particular branch is a perfect spot for focused remote work while enjoying a cup of excellent coffee. More information about Couvee can be found at their website : www.couvee.co.id

    Couvee Reside overall look

The café is like any other WFC-friendly café, with a mix of remote workers and regular visitors. It has a large space, communal tables, strong Wi-Fi, and many electrical outlets. The interior looks and design are quite cozy, warm and esthetic which creates such a relaxing and chill atmosphere. Actually, when the place is crowded, the main area can also be noisy as well. However, no need to worry what makes this place different from other cafés is a specialized room called the “Focus Room,” which is dedicated to those who wish to work in a more private, quiet, and calm environment.

The room is located in the back corner of the café. It is a small yet spacious room with a maximum capacity of 12 people. Moreover, everyone who uses this room is remote workers who prefer a quiet and calm environment so they can focus and work in peace. Since everyone in the room shares the same purpose and preference, you will not encounter situations where people chat loudly with each other or speak in a high voice during online meetings. It is such a brilliant and effective idea!

Drinks price are quite affordable with range from 20.000 - 30.000 IDR (around 1 - 2 USD). Their best selling menu called Java which is milk coffee made by espresso shots and condensed milk. But, for those who are not drinking coffee can also enjoy non coffee menu such as tea, lemonade or matcha.

Hey! In Maturín, the city where I live in Venezuela, there are no cafés like this. It's really rare to see people working outside. In fact, some cafés with Wi-Fi limit you to one hour. I hope that one day we can enjoy places like these 😊

Hi there, greetings from Indonesia ! In fact, the city where the cafe is located is a big city and its a student city as well. So, its common to have people do their work in the cafe, whether it is for job related or working on college assignment. In some other smaller cities, we also don't have cafes like this. Hope you can have the chance to experience it one day 😊
