Hello hivers, as I wrote before, during the past Saturday we opened the door of our studio to the citizen and, during the afternoon, the uncle of my hubby (Giuliano Beneforti) talked with us about the history of the urban planning of our city (Pistoia, Italy). Giuliano is a very nice and friendly man 85 years old. He's full of energy like a young boy and, after all the life spent working as architect (included some years as Councillor for Town Planning), he worked also on some book about the history of our town.
The urban planning is the process of developing and/or designing the area uses and the built environment, it's also an important "tool" to improve well-being of people and, sure, to improve the sustainability standards.
As you can understand, it's a very interesting field, especially if the main subject is the city where we live.
Pistoia (my city) is a typical Italian medieval city in Tuscany. We are around 30.000 citizen just in the city plus another 59.000 outside the city, for a total of 89.000 citizen in a area of 236.17 km2 (91.19 sq mi). We have many many historical buildings and ancient walls, so it's not so simple to think about the urban planning respecting all the past.
Giuliano wrote 7 books about the history of the urban planning of Pistoia since the 1840 until today and my hubby @paolobeneforti helped him to do it along the years. Talking about those books Giuliano (and, in some parts, Paolo) told us not just about the technical data, but he also told to us about some anecdotes so people really appreciated everything in a simple way. It was really an awsome couple of hours spent together with old and new friends, between art and architecture. <3
