There's been a lot of hubbub lately on our platform regarding how we should change various aspects of how it works behind the scenes, but there's a big change we can make without any control whatsoever over any of that:

    Feed the minnows.

Upvote small accounts. Reblog posts you like from these small accounts to boost their visibility to your own followers. Browse your following feed to see what people you already like are sharing. Make substantive comments and create conversations about the posts you see. Curation doesn't mean following the crowd, it means helping highlight underappreciated content so more people can see it.

If you're a minnow yourself, you can find posts to support, too. Find a tag or community which interests you, and see what's out there. Your vote may be small, but it is not insignificant. More importantly, making substantive comments brings eyes to your account. I notice if someone new adds value through engagement. The same applies for other creators here, I'm sure. Just don't be another copy/paste spammer and you're ahead of the game. Ask questions. Share similar personal experiences. Heck, challenge arguments if you think there's a flaw in them. There's nothing wrong with honest debate about ideas.

If you see good comments in other posts, upvote them, too! Click through to their account to see whether they're writing anything else which interests you. You never know who you might discover.

HIVE isn't just an ecosystem, it's a censorship-resistant platform where we build conversations. Minnow or whale, you can be part of that. Let the token price do what it will. We can't control it. We can control how we make this network a place where conversations happen, and be sure to feed the minnows along the way.

Yes, yes and yes. Old timers should know this already but often get complacent. I try not to be!

I agree with all of this. It all goes back to "Treat people how you want to be treated." You want honest interaction? Interact honestly with others. You want upvotes? Upvote others. You want high paying upvotes? Power up as much as you can and upvote others like yourself. Another way to put it is "Be the change you want to see in the world."

I recently discovered I have reached minnow status. What was I before that? Plankton?

I think you've been a minnow for a long time, If I recall correctly, the ranks are plankton, minnow, redfish, dolphin, orca, and whale, in ascending order. I am barely an orca.

That's funny, because I didn't know the plankton rank actually exists; I thought I was making it up!

Some of my replies to the maniac look weird in the embedding. Sorry if it causes any confusion.

No worries. I have found there is little point in trying to communicate with such dedicated trolls, and I remain unconvinced there is more than one person behind all the similar behavior here from multiple accounts over the years.
