Sadly I don't have any photos for this trip. Basically the weather was crap and the hill was barely visible.

Today was a great test of the bike though. It felt pretty solid in the wet weather, although I really do need my new rear tyre to be put on.

We hit a patch of road that was flooded by an inch or two and hitting it saw the bike not move an inch. This is great news because it instills confidence for if/when I come across river crossings. I want more dirt Ks before I start any of that though.

I don't mind riding in crappy weather. As a postie I ride in it all the time, so I am the furthest thing from a fair weather rider than you can find. So with wet weather gear on I rode.

As I was leaving one of my underlings asked if he could come. Hell yeah. The more the merrier. He was on his Suzuki GSX500F which is a nice bike.

So a little bit about German Hill.

Not a lot is known of the area other than in the 1860s there was a plan to create a block of land for German immigrants to be settled in the area. It was stopped though due to fears regarding the Taranaki Land Wars between Maori tribes.

Later there were a few Polish families that moved into the area and the locals called them Germans.

The hill itself is a cumulodome, formed during eruptions of Mt Egmont/Taranaki by sticky lava. It is an impressive hill and one I'd like to go back and photograph for dexterity.
