Most of you have been following my Sterling silver scrapping journey as I've posted about it along the way. With silver price reaching highs never seen before in my lifetime, I refuse to pay $110/ounce plus a premium for silver. Back when it was $20-30/ounce it was something I could budget for and pick up a few ounces every month. Not anymore, so I scrap for my silver instead.
In my previous post, I showed a picture of the 582 grams of Sterling silver I sent off to the refiner. I use a smaller refiner, so I don't have to deal with the backlog issues others are experiencing. I sent the scrap in on 1/16/26 and got it back today. They state on their website it can take up to a month, but this was only 11 days!
Here's what I got back.
I got 13 .999 1oz bars back!
I originally paid approximately $45/oz for the Sterling silver scrap. With silver now at $115/oz and climbing, I only need to sell about 7 ounces to cover my costs and the remaining 6 ounces is pure profit for me. That cost even includes the Sterling silver bracelet with Moissanite stones I found and gave to my wife, and the hand-carved pendant I found.
It takes some work and not every find is a winner, but with some patience, persistence and a good eye, you can basically get paid to turn Sterling silver scrap into bullion to add to your stack!
