Those who play Splinterlands regularly know how exciting the end of the season can be. Especially when you only have 24 hours to spare! Right now, I have fulfilled one of my promises from last season. I had to stop after reaching Silver last season, but I promised myself that I would unlock the Gold League or Gold Tier in the next season.
Today is the big day. Just before the end of the season, I finally made it to the Gold III League after winning an extremely exciting battle. This achievement is a huge milestone for my gaming career. In today's article, I will discuss in detail that exciting battle, my strange but effective strategy, and the great rewards I received after reaching the Gold League.
Battleground Preparation: When the Rules Are Tough
I had 28 Mana in this crucial match to get to gold. The ruleset was quite challenging:
Lost Magic: No magic attacks can be used.
Melee Mayhem: Melee attacks can be made from any position.
Since magic attacks are disabled, I had to rely entirely on armor and health or life. And because of 'Melee Mayhem', I knew that the opposing team would bring down all their strong fighters. So I had to devise a strategy that would be both defensive and offensive at the same time.
My Masterplan and Lineup Selection
In this match, I chose Life Element, and my summoner was Avina of the Wolf. My card selection was very strategic and a bit unconventional.
1st Position (Halfling Refugee): I put this card in front of everyone with only 1 mana. Many people may wonder why the 1 mana card is in the front. Actually, this was my 'strategic move'. I wanted the opponent's first 1-2 strong attacks to pass over this small card, so that the main tank behind me remained intact. He performed his duty properly and acted as support for the team.
2nd position (Dar 'Gottem' Gearnut): This was my trump card. This huge monster card of 14 mana has a lot of health. But I increased its real power through my summoner Avina. Using Avina's special ability, I added "Heal" or healing ability to this card. As a result, he was healing himself again after taking damage every round.
3rd position (Saltwraith Bulkhead): I kept this card in the back row. Since the 'Melee Mayhem' rules were in effect, he was constantly dealing damage to the opponent even from the 3rd position. It was the perfect choice to weaken the opponent with a little damage.
Battle Highlights
Round 1 & 2:
As soon as the match started, the opposing team attacked my first position, Halfling Refugee. He didn't last long, but the time he bought me was invaluable. Then came my healing tan,k Dar 'Gottem' Gearnut.
Round 3 & 4:
The opposing team's Earth element attacks were quite strong. But my strategy was perfect. Whenever they hit my Dar 'Gottem', he would regain his life in the next round thanks to the Summoner's healing ability. He stood alone like a wall with about 17-20 health.
Moment of Victory:
The opposing team was getting tired of constantly attacking, but they couldn't defeat my tank. On the other hand, Saltwraith Bulkhead was doing its job from behind. Finally, the opposing team was forced to give in to my defensive and healing tactics. The desired word appeared on the screen—VICTORY!
Gold League Unlock and a flood of rewards 🎁
As soon as I won the match, my rating increased, and I crossed the threshold of Silver 1 and unlocked Modern Gold III. This feeling is indescribable. The joy of being able to keep my promise is different.
As soon as I got to Gold, I got the opportunity to open several premium chests or boxes as season rewards. The rewards for the Gold tier were really nice. What I got:
Grove Doomblade (Rare): An amazing card of the Fire element.
Palimpsest Prophet (Rare): A very nice card of the Life element that will make my deck stronger.
Husk of the Hunter: This is also a work card.
Thornmaw Berserker: A powerful unit of the Earth element.
Merits & Potions: I also got a lot of Merits and Legendary and Gold Potions that will be useful for opening packs in the future.
Getting to this Gold League just a day before the end of the season has given me a lot of confidence. It was hard to believe that this healing combination of Avina of the Wolf with Dar 'Gottem' Gearnut would work so well without seeing it on the battlefield.
