Normally, one escalator goes up, the other goes down - but the crypto escalator seems to be heading in one direction only. Granted, precious metals that have been on a run lately are taking a hammering also. It all just smells of more manipulation - but hey, that is the market we have - one that is gamed by the biggest players to keep punishing smaller players, to accrue wealth into a massive pool under very few hands of control.
I am safe.
No one can take my retirement plan away.
Well, they'd have to take all rope-like resources, and tear down all tree-like structures over six feet in height. So, I think I am pretty safe. It will be environmentally friendly also, as it will be Lion Kinging "circle of life" approach.
When we die, our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass.
Mufasa was all for justifying unnecessary death, as long as he had a full belly.
Sounds like the 0.1%
"You all have to suffer, so that I can have wealth I can never spend in a hundred lifetimes"
It really is hard to justify the economic practices we have created and support, from resource hoarding to debt models that bleed people dry - it is a representation of how unevolved we actually are as a species. Sure, we have made technological advances, but ultimately, we are still acting in the same way as cavemen, in constant fear of not having enough to eat, or being killed by something in the darkness.
Will we ever actually evolve?
I have thought about this often and I think it is a pretty firm yes, but it is going to take conditions that are well outside of our control. Like aliens attacking. The reason is that we are so good at justifying our actions in order to keep doing what we want to do, even though we keep suffering more from it.
Gluttons for punishment.
Like someone who overeats until they can't fit through a door. Or someone who can never be skinny enough, despite looking skeletal. We are made to set our path, and then keep plugging away at it, even though it doesn't work.
We are consistent and predictable.
And because of this, no matter what technological advancements we make, unless there is a pill that gives us enlightenment, we are going to keep on the road to self-destruction at the individual and the macro level of the species. We will eat ourselves into oblivion, with our fuel being anything that we desire, whether food, drugs, money, or sex.
We just can't help ourselves?
We could be doing so much good with the resources we have, making leap and bound advancements in all kinds of tech and social betterment, but instead we are fighting like toddlers over toys that don't matter at all. And at a personal level if we aren't doing what makes us better, we are making ourselves worse. It is the same at the species level. Almost none of what is going on in the world at the moment is making us better, intentionally or unintentionally, it is all just more suffering at the hands of people who desire power.
My retirement plan doesn't sound too bad, does it?
It would actually be an interesting thought experiment. Many talk about the world being overpopulated, but I wonder what would happen if people starting from the poorest decided to just walk off a cliff. How many billions would die before they got to an equilibrium where the top is willing to pay enough to keep the bottom happily alive? Or, would it just keep going until it ends up like Highlander, there can be only one.
While not a pleasant thought experiment perhaps, it is essentially what is happening now in the world anyway. The top is working out how much suffering they can inflict on the bottom and still be able to keep them alive as a resource to keep bleeding. And there is plenty of room to play with, as literally a few billion can die and they would barely be noticed by anyone at the top. It won't be until the top getting the goods and services they want that they will start to question why. Until then, they will keep on inflicting economic harms to satisfy their desires.
And there are still many people who think this economic system we have built and continually support, is working. But perhaps it is only working for those who are getting what they want, eh?
A small group wants the values to go down.
Pity there isn't an influential enough group who have ethical values and want the wellbeing of humanity to go up.
