New Lufthansa rules for powerbanks in airplanes, max 100Wh and powerbanks must not be stowed in the overhead lockers any more.

Was sagt ihr dazu?

From January 2026, there will be new rules from the Lufthansa Group regarding the transport of power banks.

As before, power banks are only allowed in the cabin and not in checked-in luggage due to the risk of explosion.

What is new is that power banks may not be stored in the overhead compartment above the seats, but must be stored either under the seats, in the seat back pocket, in hand luggage, or on the person and must be kept under observation.

Charging and using power banks on board is also not permitted.

Furthermore, there is a restriction of a maximum of two power banks per person, with a maximum capacity of 100 Wh or 2 g LC (lithium content) per power bank. This corresponds to 100 thousand milliwatt hours. This should not be a problem for normal laptop and cell phone batteries. For larger batteries, you need permission from Lufthansa.

What do you think? Do you also take a power bank with you when you fly?

Better safe than sorry with lithium fires, I suppose. It’s interesting that this is becoming a standard across the whole Lufthansa group.

I think power banks could potentially start a fire if it is not controlled

I don't know if this rule is implemented in Canada yet. If Canada does, they charge a big fee to take them on. "Profits before people."
