Stolen Without Sound: How Smartphones Are Draining Our Time and Ideas

Today's topic is how phones steal our ideas and time without us even noticing. In today's world, we wake up in the morning and immediately reach for our phones, and at night, we use them until we fall asleep. The first thing we do after turning off our alarm is grab our phone and check it. We check one notification, then another, then a third, and before we know it, 30 minutes have vanished. We think we're only using our phones a little, but we're actually using them excessively, and this time is being stolen from us without our knowledge. We don't even realize it because this process seems so normal. We don't even notice that we've become addicted and spend the whole day looking at our phones. Imagine spending your entire day, from morning till night, just looking at your phone.

The biggest trick of phone time is that it keeps us constantly busy. When we're looking at the screen, we feel like we're doing something productive or something creative, like watching the news or replying to messages. But when the day ends, if we carefully consider how we spent our time, we realize that we didn't do anything productive all day except use our phones. We feel like we're occupied, but without any real purpose. Our productivity is zero; we're just busy on our phones. This focus on our phones distracts us from deep thinking and makes us feel tired and ready for sleep. Is it really so necessary that we spend all day on our phones? Don't we have anything else to do?

Social media is this phone's most powerful weapon, and you see it in action every day. The algorithm keeps suggesting "just one more," and before you know it, an hour or two have passed. You don't even realize how much time has gone by, and this is especially harmful for children. Young children, whose brains are still developing, have no idea how much harm they're doing to themselves. Each short video seems harmless, so it feels like no time is being wasted. But these small things add up, and by the time we realize the damage, it's too late. The problem is that this often happens when we're mentally tired, so we can't resist it. We start to think it's just a normal part of our daily routine, and it gradually creates a mindset where we believe that watching three or four hours of short videos a day is perfectly normal.

<en-us-grammar>This is causing the most problems for young children because their brains are still developing. Imagine how harmful it would be if they were given phones or tablets at this stage. A young child who won't eat without watching a phone or tablet – what must be going through their mind? They spend all day just looking at a screen, so imagine what a huge parenting mistake that is. Never give your children phones. If you do give them one, never let them use it for more than an hour a day, because phones are addictive and make children irritable. Without them, children will become angry and start hitting themselves, and in many cases, they'll start doing things that are very harmful. Therefore, always keep your children away from phones and give them as little screen time as possible, because phones can damage your child's mind and hinder their development.

The most dangerous part is that our phones also provide us with emotional comfort. When we're bored, stressed, anxious, or feeling uncomfortable, we immediately pick up our phones and look at something that interests us. This gives us instant distraction. But when this becomes a habit, we forget how to understand and process our emotions. The phone becomes a crutch. Whenever we face a problem or feel like we can't handle something anymore, we turn to our phones instead of confronting the issue. Over time, this avoidance slows down our personal growth.

In the name of productivity, phones are becoming even more dangerous. To-do lists, reminders, notes, and calendars—everything is on the phone. Despite being useful tools, phones distract us a lot when we're doing productive work or any other task. If the phone rings or a notification pops up, imagine if you had an idea at that moment. Suddenly, your attention will shift to the phone, and you'll forget that idea. Then you'll spend anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour on your phone without even realizing it, which will ruin your productivity. The phone becomes a tool that, instead of making work easier, makes it more difficult. This gradually diminishes your productivity, and you become unable to manage your time effectively, ultimately making you an unproductive person.
