¡Hola, amigos de Hive! Qué gusto saludarles nuevamente. Hoy me paso por aquí para compartirles una jornada que me dejó muy satisfecha. Seguramente a muchos de ustedes les pasa lo mismo: uno va acumulando una lista de "detalles" que hay que arreglar en casa, cosas que quizás no son urgentes, pero que sabemos que están ahí, esperando por nosotros. Esas tareas que siempre posponemos por falta de tiempo o de presupuesto, pero que cuando finalmente las hacemos, nos dan una paz increíble.
Todo comenzó después de que terminamos el gran proyecto del techo del porche. Como recordarán, de esa obra anterior me quedó un pequeño techo de fibra de vidrio que anteriormente protegía la puerta principal. Lo tenía ahí, a un costado del porche, apoyado en el piso. Aunque técnicamente no me estorbaba para caminar, me causaba una inquietud constante por dos razones: primero, porque no me gusta tener cosas acumuladas sin darles utilidad, y segundo, ¡por las vecinas!
Me daba mucha risa, pero a la vez me ponía en alerta, porque ya varias "vecinitas" me habían echado el ojo al techito. Venían y me decían: "Yeli, como ese techito está ahí tirado y no lo estás usando, ¿por qué no me lo das? Yo sí lo necesito". Yo, muy educadamente, ya les había dicho que no, que tenía planes específicos para él, pero la insistencia seguía. Algo en mi interior me decía que, si no me apuraba, ese techo iba a "desaparecer por arte de magia" una mañana de estas. Así que, sin ganas de esperar a que la magia vecinal hiciera de las suyas, lo puse de primero en mi lista de prioridades para este fin de semana.
Hello, Hive friends! It's great to see you again. Today I'm here to share with you a day that left me feeling very satisfied. I'm sure many of you can relate: you accumulate a list of “little things” that need to be fixed around the house, things that may not be urgent, but that we know are there, waiting for us. Those tasks that we always put off due to lack of time or budget, but when we finally do them, they give us incredible peace of mind.
It all started after we finished the big porch roof project. As you may recall, I had a small fiberglass roof left over from that previous project that had previously protected the front door. It was there, on the side of the porch, leaning against the floor. Although it didn't technically get in my way when walking, it caused me constant concern for two reasons: first, because I don't like to have things piling up without using them, and second, because of the neighbors!
It made me laugh, but at the same time it put me on alert, because several “neighbors” had already set their sights on the little roof. They would come and say to me, “Yeli, since that little roof is just lying there and you're not using it, why don't you give it to me? I really need it.” I had already politely told them no, that I had specific plans for it, but they kept insisting. Something inside me told me that if I didn't hurry up, that roof was going to “magically disappear” one of these mornings. So, not wanting to wait for the neighborhood magic to happen, I decided to get rid of it myself.

Yo quería instalarlo específicamente en el marco de la ventana de mi cuarto, que es el lugar perfecto para proteger del sol y evitar que la lluvia golpee directamente el vidrio. Para esto, llamé a un vecino que últimamente me ha estado ayudando con los trabajos de mantenimiento. Es el mismo que instaló el techo del porche y trabaja muy bien, dejando todo bien firme y nivelado. Mis vecinas están acostumbrada a que en mis limpiezas profundas siempre les regale las cosas, pero con este techo ya tenía planes.
Aquí les confieso algo sobre la dinámica en mi hogar: mi esposo siempre me dice que él se encargará de esos arreglos, pero la verdad es que sus tiempos y los míos no siempre coinciden. Él trabaja fuera y llega cansado o tarde, y yo, bueno... yo soy una mujer de acción inmediata. Cuando me planifico y me meto una idea en la cabeza, quiero verla materializada de una vez. Soy un poco "desesperada" en ese sentido; si decido que algo se arregla hoy, no me gusta esperar al mes que viene. Por eso, prefiero contratar a este señor para que me ayude con esos detalles y así mantener la casa en orden sin generar tensiones innecesarias.
Aprovechando su visita, no solo pusimos el techito de fibra de vidrio en mi ventana, sino que también instalamos un bombillo en el porche. Por las noches esa área se veía muy oscura y me daba una sensación de vacío. Aunque parezcan pequeñeces, cuando estas tareas se van acumulando, terminan pesando en el ánimo. Ahora, ver el porche iluminado hace que la entrada de la casa se sienta mucho más acogedora y segura.

To do this, I called a neighbor who has been helping me with maintenance work lately. He is the same one who installed the porch roof and works very well, leaving everything firm and level. My neighbors are used to me giving them things when I do deep cleaning, but I already had plans for this roof.
Here's a little secret about the dynamics in my home: my husband always tells me that he'll take care of these repairs, but the truth is that his schedule and mine don't always coincide. He works outside the home and comes home tired or late, and I, well... I'm a woman of immediate action. When I make plans and get an idea in my head, I want to see it come to fruition right away. I'm a little “desperate” in that sense; if I decide that something needs to be fixed today, I don't like to wait until next month. That's why I prefer to hire this gentleman to help me with those details and keep the house in order without creating unnecessary tension.
Taking advantage of his visit, we not only put the fiberglass roof over my window, but also installed a light bulb on the porch. At night, that area looked very dark and gave me a feeling of emptiness. Although they may seem like small things, when these tasks pile up, they end up weighing on your mood. Now, seeing the porch lit up makes the entrance to the house feel much more welcoming and secure.
Iluminación y proyectos en el jardín
Otro detalle que me tenía inquieta era mi arco de trinitarias. Es una planta hermosa que adorna la entrada, pero desde que quitamos los adornos y las luces de Navidad, ese espacio quedó en total oscuridad. Yo quería una instalación sencilla que se conectara directamente desde mi cuarto para darle claridad a esa área verde.
Compré un bombillo de los económicos, pero como con la electricidad sí confieso que estoy totalmente "raspada" (me da mucho respeto el tema de los cables y la corriente), le pedí ayuda a mi cuñada. Ella entiende mucho mejor esas conexiones y me dio una mano para dejarlo listo y funcional. El resultado me gustó mucho, aunque tengo un pequeño detalle que corregir: el bombillo resultó ser de luz amarilla y yo quería que fuese luz blanca para que resaltara más el color de las flores. ¡Cosas que pasan por no fijarse bien en el empaque al momento de la compra! Sin embargo, ya estoy pensando en mejorar esa instalación y colocar quizás dos bombillos más para hacer una especie de extensión y que todo el arco de flores resalte como se merece.
Limpieza y lo que viene
Para cerrar el día, aprovechamos de hacer una limpieza profunda en el porche usando cepillos de cerdas duras y bastante agua. Ustedes saben que con el polvo constante y las lluvias recientes, el piso siempre requiere un esfuerzo extra para recuperar su brillo. Mientras tallaba el piso, empecé a visualizar el siguiente proyecto que tengo en mente para este espacio exterior, porque mantener el hogar bonito es un trabajo que nunca termina.
Lighting and garden projects Another detail that had me worried was my arch of trinitarias. It's a beautiful plant that adorns the entrance, but since we took down the Christmas decorations and lights, that space was left in total darkness. I wanted a simple installation that would connect directly from my room to brighten up that green area.
I bought a cheap light bulb, but since I confess that I am totally clueless when it comes to electricity (I am very wary of wires and current), I asked my sister-in-law for help. She understands these connections much better and gave me a hand to get it ready and functional. I really liked the result, although I have one small detail to correct: the light bulb turned out to be yellow, and I wanted it to be white so that the color of the flowers would stand out more. These things happen when you don't look closely at the packaging when you buy something! However, I'm already thinking about improving the installation and perhaps adding two more bulbs to create a kind of extension so that the entire flower arch stands out as it deserves to.
Cleaning and what's next To end the day, we took the opportunity to give the porch a thorough cleaning using stiff brushes and plenty of water. You know that with the constant dust and recent rains, the floor always requires extra effort to restore its shine. As I scrubbed the floor, I began to visualize the next project I have in mind for this outdoor space, because keeping your home beautiful is a never-ending job.
Aún me queda pendiente corregir una pequeña fuga en el techo que aparece cuando llueve muy fuerte, pero eso ya quedó anotado para la próxima visita de mi vecino trabajador. Por ahora, disfruto de ver mi ventana protegida y mi arco de flores iluminado.

I still need to fix a small leak in the roof that appears when it rains heavily, but that's already been noted for my handy neighbor's next visit.
