My Progress in my 2026 MMOs (Part 3)... I think?
That gaming depresso kicks in and out for me. Sometimes I lose the full picture of why I am even playing a game when there is nobody besides me actively playing it. My friends are too stuck in their genres to even ponder venturing out and trying new (or is it old?) games with me. Solo MMORPG playing seems to fit me though because I am not limited by a single player game and reaching an 'end point' that signifies the fact that I cannot progress any further and have to restart to once again turn the wheel of 'progress'.
MMO's have to keep adding content and thus there is always something to strive for.
EvE Online -
After losing my shi(t)p due to a lack of information about what could reside in data / relic sites besides points to crack open and being blown to smithereens by the newfound knowledge that, yes, Enemy NPCs might be in a site and blow up anyone with extreme firepower, I had to repurchase all my assets.
In a universe so big it is nice to see where all my stuff is.
Thankfully everything is dirt cheap relatively
Just a bit of traveling here and there to get another gallante scan ship, the scanning equipment, drones, and other things which took me probably an hour and a half but was enjoyable to a degree.
I think thats everything
That's the price of 'failure' and in EvE Online, failure is just a learning experience.
LOTRO -
Previously I was pleased to see that my progress of 'Undefeated' was awarding me titles every few levels but I made the mistake of accepting an escort quest to protect a child NPC wandering a burial ground and get them to safety.
Well I had forgotten that early MMO Escort quests usually involved the NPC moving erratically across the area and attracting all types of enemies and in multiple numbers too. There was no preventing my eventual demise. I did click a hasty 'revive now' option so I wouldn't have to restart the quest.
Of course the quest completes with the NPC frolicking back home but for some reason there was a dead body by the road they travelled and I thought ' If the child entered from this direction, saw the dead body, and still wandered into the burial site then maybe it would've been better if I had let nature run its course'
Weird spot to take a nap
I mean, I would still be 'undefeated' and the reward for completion wasn't even that great.
Oh well! Maybe if I gather up the courage to do another run I can try an 'undefeated' run on a more hardier class.
Ever onward!
Guild Wars 2 -
I stopped playing for a bit after I got level 50 and reached rank 20 pvp for Ranked but I started back up to try and get into World Vs world. Don't know if I am even allowed to enter World vs World as a solo but I needed to know.
Plenty of PVP activities
I entered the PVP Lobby area and looked around for abit before accidentally ending up in a free for all arena. It went as well as one could expect.
Turns out players tend to switch targets when they notice a weaker target
After that though I did find the hotkey for World vs World and lo and below I am still too low level to enter. Not a problem though, I'll just play ranked!
I dont even know if I need to join a guild/corporation to begin after I hit 60
That went as well as one could expect considering I have no idea how classes actually play or when to disengage from a fight. I am building for condition damage though and that constant barrage of annoyance I provide usually makes me the first target to kill.
Being annoying in battle is a playstyle I frequently participate with
Still a fun time!
Ending -
Progress is slow but it was only January so I am not too worried. There is not even a rush to get through these MMOs because they've been around for so long that there is always something for me to do or participate with that isn't 'endgame'.
That feeling of needing to get to end game has practically vanished because for these sandbox MMOs, the 'end game' is what I make of it, which is nice.
Thank you for reading.
Happy Hunting!
