    RE: Consistently algo'd

Hello, and thanks for your thoughts on algo's on popular social media, and how alog's might be like here on HIVE.

As you say, we have the Trending and Hot pages, as well as our Friends feed. I hardly ever check Trending or Hot. When I do, I tend to not find anything of interest to me. Others may have a different experience. I almost exclusively check my Friends feed because I have picked these people to be on that feed and I am interested in what they are posting.

But I also would like a "For You Page"! Not to Replace what is here, but to offer new possible people to add to my Friends feed. I think I would stick to checking my Friends feed daily, like I've done for nearly 10 years, but I'd peep the #FYP now and again to see who I might be overlooking as future Friend material.

Our own FYP is already here?

About 15 days ago I saw this from the INLEO folks, specifically @khaleelkazi. https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@khaleelkazi/rafiki-20-is-the-best-onchain-ai-model-ever-created-dvz Here is a relevant quote:

Probably one of the most notable features of Rafiki 2.0 is the AI-Powered For You Feed. This new For You feed is entirely powered by Rafiki and will give you hyper-personalized content. Each Premium user on INLEO will have their own For You Feed where Rafiki reads 100% of incoming threads and sorts them automatically for you based on what you tend to engage with.

To unpack this, first it is for folks who pay them $10 a month, their fee to be a "premium user". So that is a bit of a negative. But they have a cost associated with producing this data so they can of course charge for it. Better than asking Hive to fund it via a proposal IMHO.

Another negative I won't get into much, is the fact that INLEO has a bit of a love/hate thing going on - folks on Hive seem to love them or hate them. I'm in the middle with an open mind and I go issue by issue.

    • I didn't like what happened in the past with some of their tokens.

    • I know that it is said that their Account Creation system seems to recruit more than their fair share of scammers and abusers into Hive.

    • I Love the experiments they are currently doing with all their new tokens! I am not saying anyone should go buy anything. NFA! DYOR! Just saying "strategy" tokens and RWA tokens and loan systems are good to experiment with, and could be good for Hive.

    I'm For Freedom of Choice

If people want to be a Premium member and want to use INLEO's FYP then that sounds good to me. We'll soon see if this new thing is helpful for its users or not. Experimenting is good. Let's try new things.

Should a FYP page be the "main" page on Hive front ends? Probably not. I still love my Friends feed after all these years. Even on YouTube I mostly look at my subscribed channels page. But YouTube does a good job For Me as far as showing me interesting stuff in the column of related videos that I see when watching a video. So having something similar here would be something that might get my eyes on new Hive folks.

To end this long comment, I'll just say that it is not just INLEO talking about an algo driven #FYP. I also had a convo with @meno on one of his posts 2 weeks ago, at this link. https://peakd.com/hive-178315/@meno/more-butter-for-the-pancreas#@kenny-crane/re-meno-t8vb07

    He said

I agree an algo of sorts to help people find content is very much needed. I keep on thinking of how to do this without collecting much info, without reverting back to a web2 model... its a tall ask, but i agree its the way.

So as a decentralized blockchain with different front ends to access the data, we will likely be seeing some algo driven alternatives to our current feeds.

Again, freedom of choice is good. Being forced to look at algo pages is bad. But having that option is maybe good!

Thanks again for your post! I know my reply doesn't address all the aspects you wrote about, but I think it's relevant to the general topic of algo's in social media and Hive.

    Have a Nice Day!
