While the year has brought mixed feelings and experiences, the one certainty is that there in fact is no certainty in today's world! Thinking of the devastation that the people of Turkey are currently going through, makes my troubles fade into nothing.
As I told everyone in my Blog of the Month entry I have been taking more time out since getting back from saying goodbye to our son and his girlfriend while they're busy settling in across the waters.
Of course, nature always features when we go out on jaunts, and the ocean currents are way too strong so always pull us that way - walking along the sand while the sea breeze blows out all the cobwebs, and hearing the sound of the waves really is a balm to the soul! We stopped at a popular caravan park on the upper South Coast of Kwazulu Natal with my bestie @artywink and her hubby. They obviously cater to families, but also have a really quaint pub with an old ship in the center, turned into the bar area. The best part is that one literally can step out straight onto the sand, and they have an awesome outdoor area where you cannot get any closer to the sand and the sea while having a tasty bite and an ice-cold drink.
Will any of you qualify for getting credit at this jaunt?
The barman pointed us to this sign promising free beer, but tells us that tomorrow never comes; really trying to fool the patrons not so :)
Back at the ranch, we've had to make plans to try and save our garden birds from our new grandchild Poe the hunter! So far he has not managed to jump onto this bird feeder, so we're holding thumbs, as some of the birds have unsuccessfully been trying to frighten him with their loud squawking! Poe however is as happy as can be, and already has favorite spots all over the house. Sleeps the days away at times, and then wants to play at night!
Homemade seeded oats & wholewheat scones for teatime were a real treat, baking is something I've been doing more of lately, so I'm a happy gal, and so are the family and staff. There were no guests to spoil with a treat!
Bookings in our BnB have been few and far between since mid-January, but seem to be picking up, so we're holding all our thumbs and toes! We hosted a lovely young French family who made Lily's Cottage a stopover to get their breath back before they headed off for the Game Reserves up on the far north of KZN. When I told them about local food deliveries they laughed and said - 'we're French, we love cooking!' And the aromas wafting up from the cottage was just amazing.
My family had to be satisfied with my cooking - real Italian spaghetti with Chicken, red bell pepper, mushroom, and a creamy pepper sauce was not shabby at all, even if I say so myself ;)
I'll end off my early February fables stories with some of the Orchids in our garden; yes they thrive in our humid climate so don't need much nurturing. The yellow dancing fairies are in a hanging basket, and dance day and night, while the moth orchids sit quietly for once just watching the world go by!
